Dear Dr Ze Wang,
Kindly, I have two questions:
  • What is the  real difference between the terms "perfusion" , "relative cerebral blood flow rCBF" and " regional cerebral blood flow rCBF" . I highly appreciate your input on this. I reviewed the literature extensively and actually I feel, right now, more confused regarding the real meaning of these terms.
  • I have 10 PASL images for patients and 10 PASL images for healthy controls. I have finished the pre-processing steps in "ASLtbx". Inside every subject's folder, I have a list of files ( bellow/ attached ).  In order to study the difference in brain perfusion( or rCBF ?)  between the groups I aim to register the file " cbf_0_sASLflt_rasl_4D.nii" to "MNI152"  then I will merge the resultant files using "fslmerge". Finally, I will run voxel wise analysis using "randomise" in FSL.  Are these steps correct for the analysis?
I highly appreciate your comments and suggestions!
Best,
Mohamad

Hello Mohamad,
Perfusion means the delivery of nutrients to tissue in a unit of ml/100g/1 min. Relative CBF means CBF (perfusion) divided by the whole brain mean.  Regional CBF mean CBF in a specific brain area or voxel.
For your second question, 10 pairs of PASL images are barely useful to get a reliable mean CBF map.  But anyhow, you should register the meanCBF map into the MNI space and then compare the spatially registered meanCBF map (after upsampling) across subjects.

I wish this could be helpful.  Please forward your later questions to zewa...@163.com.   Gmail and google products are blocked frequently in China, so I couldn't access my gmail and this discussion board timely.

Ze
