The Position
Administrative Assistants perform a variety of clerical, secretarial and administrative support duties such as maintaining records and files; composing and editing correspondence; data entry; office management; and budget monitoring.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
DEPENDING ON THE NUMBER OF APPLICATIONS RECEIVED THIS RECRUITMENT MAY CLOSE AT ANY TIME. The Administrative Assistant II will serve in a generalist capacity and perform a variety of support duties. Assignments are varied, involving different and/or unrelated processes and methods that require evaluation of several alternative courses of action. These duties include but are not limited to; answering the department phones, this includes a video phone, for communication with the hearing impaired/ deaf via sign language and greeting clients and vistors. Supervise student workers who perform routine administrative tasks. Maintain financial records and review timesheets for completeness. Format, edit and produce a variety of complex materials such as brochures, newsletters, flyers, presentations, charts, graphs, and other items using computer equipment and software; maintain complex databases and spreadsheets; convert documents for Internet usage and maintain Web hyperlinks and Web site's page for the program as assigned. Assist with the scheduling of tutors. Receive and process applications and requests for program services; review information provided and make initial eligibility determinations based on established criteria and requirements; contact applicants and various entities for additional information; receive appeals from ineligible applicants and refer to appropriate staff for response or disposition. Ensure proper coverage, for classes and events, which require either a translator or a Typewell operator. A variety of computer Software is used in this role. Candidates for this role must be able to communicate effectively via written, spoken AND signed communication, both in person and over video phone. SPECIAL NOTE: Please be advised that this position is subject to the State mandated unpaid furlough provision effect from July 1,2011 through June 30, 2013.

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Graduation from high school or equivalent education and two years of clerical and administrative support experience which included experience in one or more of the following areas: maintaining records and files; preparing a variety of materials using a personal computer or word processor; assisting customers in completing forms and applications; and/or performing secretarial duties in support of professional staff; OR one year of experience as an Administrative Assistant I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Additional Position Experience
This position requires skills in American Sign Language.
Awareness and sensitivity regarding Deaf Culture and knowledge of speech to text methods.
