I have removed the Return Pipe that attaches to the back of the water pump and I am replacing it with a new one.
The heater hose end at the firewall was getting brittle, and could lead to big problems.
As in standard plumbing, do I use Teflon tape on the threads of the pipe adaptor that screws into the back of the water pump?
And also on the threads of the nut that slips onto the pipe that presses the ferrule into the the pipe adaptor.
Has anyone ever performed this surgery?
Thanks for the help.

The nut compresses the ferrule onto the pipe forming a water tight seal between them. The nut also presses the outside of the ferrule into a seat in the water pump. No sealant should be necessary. Be gentle, don't over tighten it. Better to have it drip and require re-tightening, than to over do it, and crush the pipe. I recently did this on my 62 TR3, and it has not leaked a drop.

Thanks Bob, it's a true compression fitting, the original had gobs of RTV over it.
How about the adaptor nut that screws into the back of the water pump, there is no washer and only the threads to seal from a leak.
We are redoing our bathroom right now and I have plumbing on my mind.
Thanks for this tribal knowledge base.

That one, I would put some Teflon tape on.
