Hi,

I wanted to mail this before I forget it. Please think of ways (and structure them later) in which ASIG can be supported/guided/sponsored by the companies which are actually working in A and S fields (in ASIG) now that you have alumni working there who can push your case.

Ideally, I should have mailed a few people but this is something which everyone will have a say on and random ideas are welcome. So, look at different industry-sponsored groups/labs in other places and see how they work (or just throw in your thoughts). We have a good chance to fixing something up since student-run initiatives like ASIG seem to be a rarity. It would also help provide a focus.

Of course, the responsibility of coming up with a concrete plan in quick enough time does finally rest on the shoulders of CSA seniors and Bhagirath village residents. :)

That would be great !!

Actually we are thinking of taking "Linux Kernel" as this semester topic in ASIG.

Agenda: Exploring the kernel source code and adding new modules to it.Compilation and Cross Compilation of kernel also we are planning to cover. In the later stages we will probably work on Device Drivers.

First Five sessions: Theoretical (Reading about kernel and exploring source code etc..)
Next Five Sessions: Practical (Modifying the kernel by writing simple module and compiling it. (OR) Taking a research paper and implementing the same on kernel)

I know few MEites who already worked on Kernel and they are willing to help undergrads in this regard.

Want to hear from you.

Thank you.

That's a good idea. I've heard Intel is big on sponsoring initiatives and groups. So we can look out for high profile BITSians in Intel.

The way a typical semester progress and student's enthu drops, it would be a good idea to go hands-on asap. :)
