My dear Asian Council members and affiliate members:

It is time to evaluate the reasons we all volunteer for our organization.

There will always be differences in opinions, outlooks and points of view, but let us all remember the virtue of good sportsmanship.

We have had a lot of conflicts of late and it's time to stop and call a truce before we render any more damage to the rest of the people looking in.  Personal issues should be settled outside and past business issues should remain just that...past.  For some reason or the other, graves are re-dug.  Please let that rest as they do not further our success as a board.  All the time and energy spent...we could all put that to positive use.

Our current board is a strong board, populated with strong personalities.  It is normal that there will be conflict at some point in time, but revenge and defaming each other due to an unresolved personal agenda is not a win-win for anyone.

The victory of one is the victory of all.  As follows, the failure of one is the failure of all.  This is not a competition as to who excels or takes credit for one particular accomplishment...but an exercise in working as team members.  YOU all chose freely to volunteer and pledged an oath to honor our organization. I did...as your president.  Then, it's time for all of us to step up to that oath.  Shame on all of us for letting that promise go by letting personality issues prevail.  So it's time to do so even for the last month, so that we can prepare for the new board and inspire the new members to work on moving forward and improving what we had started.

As for public media, seems like many are voyeurs to my updates on FB and take things in the wrong context. This is my life and my truth that I update for myself and my family and friends.  I make no mention of people's names nor places.  Only those who choose to be involved are reactive in a negative or positive way IF they read my posts.  Please be responsible for your reactions when you mind my life story updates.  At any time, I will not get offended if you unfriend me. After all, we live in a democracy where freedom of speech is a right.

As your president, I stand committed to the resolution of all these conflicts. I will remain the last person standing if need be.  We are all volunteers and if you cannot stand the way things are managed, then a resignation is not a sign of weakness, but a more honorable way to end dispute if intolerable, rather than target to hit one and damage the others.  I have entertained walking away from all these conflicts, but I pledged my commitment to deliver my best to the end of my term.  And I have always delivered what I promise to deliver.  Thus far, our board has accomplished so much to be proud about!  Let us remember that and not let disputes prevail.

In ending this, let us look at the gift of the situation.  All things come to pass.  In this crazy exchange of hatefulness, the polar opposite of that is lovingness.  As an optimist, I choose to see beyond this exchange and would like to invite all of you to pledge once more, your commitment in bringing about peace in our organization.  We have yet much to do to finish the term.  I am very pleased that the elections committee is moving in full force.

As this being a time of crisis, I reach into my Catholic upbringing and ask the good Lord to bless us all.  We all need to forgive in order to be forgiven.  God knows none of us are perfect and we all just want the best for the organization.  Therefore,

I pledge to forgive the hate targeted at me.
I pledge to move ahead and deliver my duties as president for the rest of my term.
I pledge to be good natured and optimistic and happy.

So help me, God.

Your President,
Marvy Schuman
