Good Monday, everyone!

Belated Happy Chinese New Year to everyone!  Lots of beautiful energy coming our way with the  new year and the Lenten season.  We had a lot of astrological shifts that heightened everyone's sensory experiences plus everyone seemed truly stretched to deliver our 30th Asian Celebration.  So let's take advantage of cleaning up and ending our current term on a happy and high note.

Congratulations to the Celebration team who worked hard...David and Ardyn who led everything. There is never a perfect organization when it comes to working with talented individuals.  Ideas flow in and arguments ensue. Normal.  I am sorry that many of you were privy to personal issues, but it was meant to be.  It's past and cannot be undone.  What we can do, however, is to rectify that for the future by defining best we can the D&R's, protocols, communication set-up, policies, etc., for the new governance. Let us support the new board by making the transition easy for them, continuing where many of us dropped off so that there will be more time spent improving the system and not groping in the dark trying to re-invent what already was done.  I would hope that our gripes end with this term and not taint the new ones with our personal issues.  Trust me, they will have enough of their own without our help.

I encourage everyone to continue the reports we have customarily made post-celebration.  I will not be doing any of the work I did for the celebration the next few years, as I am retiring to prepare for a big family reunion in 2016. I wore way too many hats, so please do NOT do what I did unless you have a lot of time to dedicate.  I work out of the house, so have a flexible schedule.  It's really easy, however...just a matter of time management and PR since now, we've forged a system.  I will happily pass on all the records for Advertising, sample solicitation letters, thanks yous, etc.  Same with what I did for one sponsorship, although Carrie is the lead person here who does the wonderful wordings of our contracts, and David the other negotiator.  I only took on one organization, Oregon Community Credit Union, which I promised Carrie to continue working on until they get to Platinum level of sponsorship.  As for finance, I will report on the procedure of absorbing the food court management of the food vouchers, the planning of credit cards, the involvement of OCCU and provide all the forms we designed, as well as recommendations again for what can be tweaked for next year.  The financial report, however, comes from our numbers expert, Chau. For many of you who don't know, I fell into the finance chair position in 2014, after our treasurer then, resigned in December 2013, for issues of his own unrelated to me.  He left Chau and me to pretty much run the funds management of the event.  Chau and I discovered synergy in motion with our work and have since then, worked well as co-chairs.

I will confess I was in a pity party all by my lonesome for a bit.  I am not one to have gripes, however. Don't want the wrinkles!  Life is too short and all of you will forget what has happened eventually.  But I hope what you remember is that I have been very proud and honored to have served the Council and the Celebration thus far...in spite of everything.  Life happens and I choose to be a good sport about it all. I'm definitely not vying for sainthood, so I wish that those who have felt offended by me, would realize that we've all just mirrored each other.  Let's please put aside our personal issues and move on...until the next board at least.  And if you insist on an apology, then please let me know with a call, and I will give it to you in person. Otherwise, I apologize for whatever you feel I wronged you in.

My sole purpose of taking on the presidency a couple years ago was to make our Council accountable, transparent and sustainable.  I believe that OUR board has complied with that thus far...everyone will know where the money is, where things are, etc.  I couldn't have done anything without giving credit to the team of wonderful people who have served with me, especially those who have stuck it out through thick and thin.  Remember the Talent Bank Form I asked everyone to fill out.  That gave me a clue as to what each and everyone would be good at.

So, please everyone, let us shift and make the next few days, weeks, a happy one of transition.  I do love what I do, and I hope you do, too.  WE are all volunteers after all, here out of our own free will.

Sincerely,
Marvy

PS
Remember that we have pandas arriving sometime soon.  Let's help get back our revenue.  I await instructions from David as to when this will happen.  If it happens during our term still, we will find a way to market the pandas in order to recoup our $6k investment.
