My dear Asian Council friends,

May the spirit of Easter, whether the celebration of spring (named after the pagan goddess Eastre) or the resurrection of the Christ energy, be with you.  The symbol of the egg, is all about life...the beginning.

This is a great time to welcome new beginnings, as it is most timely for the Asian Council, too.  It is the end of our fiscal year, and having the new board coming in next weekend promises fresh energy and exciting ideas.

It is indeed a time to celebrate with much gratitude with those that have made the Asian Celebration's 30th year successful.  Let us also remember our founders, for their vision has inspired us all to dedicate a considerable amount of our energies into helping fulfill their vision, which we all embraced as ours because of our love of our culture and heritage.   And to each and every person, whether a Council member or not, that has helped in the Asian Council's projects in whatever way, you will always have our gratitude.  But most importantly, to the new members, the new board especially, we wish you the grace and blessings of happy relationships, a cohesive vision, great team work, and success in all your aspirations.

As I now say farewell as president of the Council, I am both nostalgic and yet excited for the upcoming elected leader to surpass whatever our term has done.  I have enjoyed getting to know so many wonderful board members quite intimately, as well as, new people I've had the opportunity to work with because of Council business.  We faced challenges and the usual personality conflicts, but at the end, one must remember the virtues of good sportsmanship.  Our term has been one of change, but that is all par for the course when it comes to setting things right and establishing protocols for honesty and transparency.  As volunteers, we need to make sure that everyone is protected and treated with respect.

Do enjoy the glorious weather, even if it's sporadic and temperamental.  We have much to be grateful for in terms of our water sources, when our very neighbor, California, is on a drought watch.  I am now an aspiring farmer here at home,  conscious of keeping a sustainable garden for food harvest (I've got rain barrels now) and enjoying the chickens (for future eggs and as pets). I am currently on a sustainable landscaping project with a goal of having cut flowers all year round. I have never spent as much time outside during the day as I have been now, with the chickens or fishing.  I keep my invitation for fishing lessons open to anyone who wishes to enjoy this rather fun and inexpensive "cheat fishing" past time at the Alton Baker Park.  Nothing feels better than getting that bite and reeling in!  And it's a cheap food source.  Drop me an email anytime and we can talk food, fish, chickens or anything under the sun.  I do plan on going out on charters to fish at the coast. No experience necessary and no gear needed...we get taken to the place where the fish are and they provide everything.   We just need to show up and pay for the ride.  This would be a great excursion for a small group.

God is good...the Universe is bountiful. We have so many blessings to be grateful for: our family, friends and our lives.  Just the other week, a friend of ours passed away just 10 days after she found out she had a brain tumor...and she was a rather health-conscious and healthy woman, just a handful of years older than I am, and married to a doctor.  No signs but discomfort on her side that she finally went to the doctor to have herself checked, only to find out she had a very aggressive form of cancer. None of us have any assurances that we will live forever, so I take this moment to thank all of you for the time we've had together. If on some occasions we had miscommunication issues, I hope you find it in your heart to forgive if you feel I have offended you. Please realize the issues were about the deed and not the person.

It has been a privilege to serve as your president and an honor to be part of the Asian Council.  Long live the vision and the future leaders of the organization.  All the best to the next decade of leadership...

More power to the Asian Council!

Sincerely,
Marvy
