GOING VEGGIE RIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS

Time to have a taste of this popular hot and spicy beef broth soup from the Philippines...  

 PECHAY/ PAK CHOI - is a kind of cabbage. It's one of the famous and most delicious vegetables in the Philippines. If you would remember, fellow asianaflavors, the introductory recipe of this group was, "Chinese Vegetable Fried Rice". This rice recipe constitute greatly this said famous vegetable leaf. Just one piece of this vegetable, fresh and chopped into 1-inch width, can be a perfect garnish of the "Chinese Vegetable Fried Rice". Now, since we already know of this rice recipe, it's about time to learn and discover a soup recipe from the Philippines...

PECHAY INFO:  Pechay/ Pak Choi is one of the oldest green vegetables in Asia. It's even widely used in varied Chinese dishes and other Asian specialties. Pechay is unique from the European cabbages. Its leaves are green, have less flavor and are less crispy from the other cabbages. And one popular use of this vegetable is in stewed dishes and meat or fish broth soups. 

 SPICY BEEF BROTH SOUP/ 'NILAGANG BAKA' (In the Philippines)

Ingredients: 

  •  beef meat chunks/ beef's tender loin portion is nice.
  • big cuts of potato chunks
  • a fair amount of spring onions cut into strips around 2 inches in length
  • medium-sized green chili peppers
  • some pepper corn balls
  • a dash of black pepper powder
  • a dash of salt and monosodium glutamate to taste
  • a fair amount of water for the broth soup
  • and some about to ripe banana fruit chunks if desired to have some sweet flavor in the soup ( Filipino-Style )
