The Department of Social Work at Wright State University seeks candidates for the position of full-time, tenure track, Assistant Professor beginning August, 2015. 

 

Wright State is a medium sized, state-supported university (over 16,000 students) in southwestern Ohio, located in suburban Dayton and near Columbus and Cincinnati.  The Social Work Department is housed in the College of Liberal Arts.  We are a growing department with over 200 undergraduate majors and over 50 students in the Greater Miami Valley Joint MASW program with Miami University of Ohio.  We have a diverse faculty who are actively involved in teaching, research, and community service.  Faculty are encouraged and supported to become an advocate for inclusion and social change on campus and in the community.

 

The BASW program has been accredited with CSWE since 1974 and the MASW program was granted CSWE accreditation in June 2014.  Students can pursue a Gerontology Certificate program or participate in the federally funded child welfare training program. 

 

 

Tenure Track Assistant Professor Requirements.   Responsibilities include teaching and advising primarily at the graduate level, conducting ongoing research, coordinating the gerontology certificate, and participating in department, college, university, and community service activities.  Priority for the current vacancy is teaching in the graduate program and teaching and research experience in gerontology. The appointment covers a 9 month period with the opportunity to teach additional courses during the summer. 

 

Required qualifications are:  Ph.D. in Social Work or related field or ABD in Social Work with the successful completion of the PhD by August 15, 2015.  Candidates must have a master’s degree in social work from a CSWE-accredited program and at least two years post-baccalaureate or post-master’s degree social work practice experience.  Candidates must have teaching, research, or practice experience with older adults.

 

Preferred qualifications are:  evidence of successful teaching, especially at the graduate level, and published peer-reviewed research.

 

Candidates are required to provide a letter of application, a curriculum vitae, a list of three references, and a statement summarizing their approach to teaching, service, and research including their support of diversity activities at other institutions.   Syllabi of courses previously taught, along with student and/or peer evaluations of teaching are welcomed.  Evidence of scholarship is also welcomed. First consideration will be given to applications received by November 1, 2014.  Applications will be considered until the position is filled.

The Department of Social Work at Wright State University seeks candidates for the position of Instructor beginning August 14, 2015. Wright State is a medium sized state university in southwestern Ohio, located in Dayton.  The university is approximately 60 miles from both Columbus and Cincinnati. The university serves a diverse student body. The Department of Social Work offers undergraduate and graduate social work degrees accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.    

 

Instructor.  

 

This is a non-tenure track position. In accordance with WSU policy and practice, appointments are assigned annually. The instructor is required to teach 8 courses (24 semester hours) over a two semester academic year. The 2015-2016 academic year is from August 14, 2015-May 13, 2016, with the opportunity to teach additional courses during the summer.

 

The primary responsibility for this position is to coordinate the field placement for all undergraduate and graduate students.  There are approximately 80 social work students in field education each year.  Each semester, the Instructor will also teach two undergraduate field seminars that meet weekly and one graduate field seminar.

Required qualifications are:  1) MSW from a CSWE accredited program 2) At least two years post-baccalaureate or post-master’s social work degree practice experience, and   : 3) At least one year experience coordinating field education.  Preferred qualifications:  Experience being a field supervisor in social work or related field, and experience teaching in social work.
