Hello all,

Wish you all doing well and glad to meet some of you again at APM at Altanta. Anyhow, APISWEA (under CSWE) has initiated the API Mentoring Network with the goals of:

  • To create professional and academic mentoring relationship between senior and junior AAPI scholars as a way to:
  • Further research and scholarship pertaining to AAPI knowledge
  • To foster collabroation among AAPI scholars
I personally do think that the AAPI Social Work Scholars Group that meets at SSWR share similar goals, etc.

Anyhow, attached is the Information of those who have signed up for the API Mentoring Network at APM. Sheet 1 is the contact information and Sheet 2 is the research interests and areas. For those who have signed up for the Mentoring Network, please review the Information Sheet and feel free to initiate contact among yourselves. This list include people who wish to participate in the Mentoring Network and each on of us will welcome contact from all of you. For those of you who haven't signed up for the Mentoring Network but would like to do so, please complete the attached Sign-up Form and send it to me.

My thinking is that we can meet both at CSWE and/or SSWR for networking, discussion, and fun as well. Meanwhile, we can use this network to share any information useful for us to further pursue and strengthen our scholarship.

For instance, a recent effort by APISWEA is that Dr. Francis Yuen is taking the lead to establish The Okura Mental Health Leadership Foundation Grant for Asian and Pacific Islander Social Workers. I would definitely encourage you all to consider this grant opportunity when it is being finalized and confirmed.

I hope this Mentoring Network will become a useful forum for us to collaborate and support each other scholarly work and research.

To note, Dr. Patrick Leung and I will try to be at CSWE and SSWR although we might not be able to do so for each conference. However, I trust that some of you can take the lead if we are not able to come.

Wish you all doing well.

Dear Dr. Lee,

It seems that the CSWE gathering was really productive. Sorry I was at the GSA conference in Boston last week and could not respond earlier. I met several of us currently on this list with an interest in aging/social work at GSA, and some new colleagues whom I would add to the mailing list. I appreciated the mentoring programs, networking opportunities, and the Okula Mental Health Leadership Grant that is still in progress.

Hope you all had a great thanksgiving holiday. Looking forward to seeing you at SSWR.

best wishes;
Sincerely,
Fei Sun
