Potential Codemonkeys talk

Hi Code Monkeys,

Ziying Ke has been visiting this summer, doing a bioinformatics project on cyanobacterial comparative genomics. Ziying has reconstructed a species phylogeny.

I think it would be great if Ziying could present this at Codemonkeys - those of us ever reconstructing species trees from whole-genome data will find this very useful. Does this seem OK? Any clashes let me know.

The steps included selecting publicly available genomes, configuring Orthofinder, preparing alignments, reconstructing phylogeny using the latest methods and checking for incongruence within the supermatrix. Preliminary analyses gave (what is widely believed to be) the wrong phylogeny - a problem Ziying solved by changing the methodology.

Provisionally, we're thinking of lunchtime or early afternoon, Thurs/Fri of next week, 26th/27th July.

Any clashes let me know.

Hi Daniel, 

I'm a bacterial phylogenomics enthusiast myself but those happen to be the 2 days I'm on leave! If I can't make it to the talk it would be nice to have a chat with Ziyang over coffee at DDH Mon/Tues/Wed next week.
