Dear Code Monkeys,

I have been having problems launching spyder from anaconda and I was wondering if anybody has had the same issue or has a hint into how to solve this.

I have a Scientific Linux desktop where I have downloaded anaconda by carefully following the instructions on the website.

When trying to launch spyder (v.3.3.2) from anaconda I receive the following error message:

 ___________________________________________

from PyQt5.QtWebEngineWidgets import QWebEnginePage
ImportError: libXss.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

____________________________________________

the (problematic) file PyQt5.QtWebEngineWidgets exists on my computer and I think there must be a problem with the path, as it can't seem to find this file (?).

I have tried a number of different things that people suggested on Stack Overflow and others, but unsuccessfully.

If anybody can give me a hand it would be extremely appreciated.

Best wishes,

Maria Mantas

Hi Maria,

According to the output of this command:

yum whatprovides libXss.so.1

this might fix it:

sudo yum install libXScrnSaver

There is a suggestion online that this could solve the problem (https://github.com/atom/atom/issues/13176). May be worth a try, anyway.

See you,

Daniel
