Did you know that Dubai did not have electricity till 1964
Some of the NRI's whom I know ,used to sleep on the flat terrace in the night to keep cool.
The Old Man Sheikh Rashid ( who died a few years ago) would stand at the creek,
and sometimes board the small dhows and pick up some novelties like a transistor radio.
If the ship from India was delayed, Dubai went without rice and other foods stuff for days on end .
Today Dubai boasts of a Sky Slopes ( in a Mall ) in a desert !
They have some of the finest buildings and hotels .
Now a state of the art Ambulance . Hats off for the innovation.
This is an example of having a strong vision and executing the plan to achieve it The Sheikh Rashid did have that and wrote an excellent book and used his wealth to serve the kingdom vs. shiekhdom.
