Saturday’s Weather
The current forecast for Saturday calls for a
partly cloudy day with
temperatures between 68 and 72.
Some riders may want to bring a light jacket or
windbreaker. It should
be a perfect day for riding.

The Ride
The
Blackstone River Greenway
is ideal for casual and beginner cyclists. The paved path is level most
of the way. Our
round-trip bike ride will total just over 20 miles. When completed, the greenway
will cover 48
miles from Worcester to Providence. It
will also be linked to the East Bay Bke Path resulting in a
trail more than
sixty miles long (one-way).
Food is scarce along the bike path so we’ll travel about 1/4 mile (each way) on the roads to Angelo’s Palace Pizza Restaurant for some outdoor dining under Angelo’s umbrellas. The food is great at this OPTIONAL lunch stop and the outdoor tables provide a scenic panorama of, well, the parking lot. It might be a good idea to bring a bike lock.

Off the Route
Our “Off the Route”
feature includes interesting
topics that we think are worth sharing with the ABC cycling
community. Please let
us know what you think.
We’ve included these two articles previously but we felt they are so important they were worth repeating.
Bicycling for Life
(TEDx Talk)
The Ted talk at the link below contains some
pretty amazing
information. One stat,
that between 1954
and 2010 more than 2.5 million Americans died in auto
accidents, is hard to get
a grip on. Just to put
that number in
perspective, that’s double
the number of Americans killed by the Civil War and all
foreign wars combined. Double!
Cars, given how poorly our cities and towns have been designed, may be a necessary evil but it’s hard to imagine how we have allowed such a dangerous product to still be marketed. Without elaboration here, something needs to change! What would you do to address the problem?

Cortisone Injections for Hip and Knee Pain?
Research has
found that cortisone injections for hip and knee pain lead to
more
complications than previously thought,
The anti-inflammatory jabs are used by athletes to mask pain, and to treat symptoms of osteoarthritis.
But the study by Boston University School of Medicine found that the treatment could speed up a joint's disintegration and force patients to have total knee or hip replacements.

See you Saturday morning at 10:30 a.m. in Woonsocket.
Be sure to check your email after 9:00 a.m. on Saturday morning to make sure we didn’t postpone or cancel the ride, and … don’t forget those helmets.
