Wednesday’s Ride
Wednesday’s
new route with familiar roads is one of the flattest routes we
offer partly
because most of the ride will be on the Bruce Freeman Rail
Trail. The on-road
part of the ride contains a few
moderate hills but, overall, this is a very flat ride.
At the northern end of the route, we’ll pay visit to the brand-new Eli Post memorial bench that was recently donated by Eli’s friends at CRW. The bench is located immediately north of Heart Pond right on the Bruce Freeman Trail.
On the way back, we’ll stop for a lunch stop / rest stop at Verrill Farm.

Bike Club Radio
There was a time when many of us
were
coming of age that our culture, our music, and our politics
seemed to meld us
all together into a movement.
Some of us
had dreams of changing the world and everything in it. Alas, while many things
changed, most did
not.
While for a few years we rode a powerful generational tide that shook the society down to its foundation, we could not truly transform it. And though we remain stardust, golden, and billion-year-old carbon, those times will never come again.
These songs talk about those times, the struggles we encountered, the hopes we had, and the alienation we felt.

But what about the bike? I
think the bear took
it.
I read lots of articles about
cycling
accidents to try to learn as much as I can about riding safely
and building a
safe cycling infrastructure. Most articles tell you almost
nothing and you can
rarely learn anything.
The old cycling joke is “yeah, yeah, I’m sorry you crashed but was your bike okay?”
The article linked below talks about a guy in California who crashed into a huge bear. It actually provided some pretty good insights about how the accident occurred, cycling speeds, and braking (breaking?) distances. What it didn’t provide was any information about the bike. Just my two cents, but my theory is the bear took it.

Supplementing
for
Stronger Bones
Many of us “seniors” take
supplements to
fend off osteoporosis. Common
supplements
include calcium and Vitamin D. Good idea? Bad idea?
