Saturday’s Weather
The forecast looks great for riding with temps between 70 and 76
degrees under
partly cloudy skies.
The
Ride
This
ride always gets
extremely positive feedback, but you’re going to have to earn
all the great
views with a bit of hill climbing. The route
is kind of a roller-coaster although most of the hills aren’t
too bad.
Saturday’s route takes us past the mansions of
Southborough. Overall,
the ride is fairly short by ABC
standards, but it still provides a challenging workout.
Southborough is a very quaint town with lots of forested areas and lots of beautifully landscaped properties. Many of the roads have a definite country feel to them.
If you’re still hungry after stopping at Uhlman’s for ice cream, a post-ride lunch is a possibility. I’m in if you are!!
You can see a map of Saturday’s route here: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/39626932
You
can print our “official cue sheet” by clicking the link above,
then click
“More”, then click “Print Map and Cue PDF”, and finally click
“Print Official”.
As always, you can download a copy of the route to your phone or
GPS device.

The rest stop at Chestnut Hill Farm (I just completed an oil
painting based on
this photo. Maybe I’ll bring it for “show and tell” on
Saturday).

96% of drivers show aggressive
driving habits
Most of the drivers we see on ABC rides seem to be very
courteous.
Overall, I think we get treated very well by the drivers we
see on our routes.
But, still, there are more than 40,000 traffic fatalities in
the US every
single year. And how is this long-time problem being
addressed?
It isn’t.
Many states are increasing the speed limits on their major highways. The Trump administration is cutting back on bike lane funding. The cars we buy just keep getting larger and heavier.
And now the study discussed in the article below indicates that almost all of us are aggressive drivers from time to time.

A Great Soup Recipe
This is really good and it’s really easy to make, too. Give
it a
try.
Red Pepper – Farro (or Barley)
Soup
INGREDIENTS
1 onion (chopped)
2 tbsp olive oil
1 tsp cumin
1 tbsp fennel seeds
1 tsp oregano
2 roasted red peppers (from jar) – chopped
1 yellow pepper (remove seeds)
1 cup farro (or barley)
6 cups vegetable stock (or water with 1.5 tbsp vegetable
bouillon)
¼ cup nutritional yeast
DIRECTIONS
1. Peel and chop the
onion and saute in
a large pot with olive oil, cumin, fennel seeds, and oregano
2. Chop red and yellow
peppers and add
to pot
3. Add the veggie
stock (or water with
veggie bouillon) and simmer until veggies are soft
4. Using a slotted
spoon, remove about ½
the veggies and blend them in a blender (or use a stick
blender if you have
one) – then return veggies to pot
5. Add the farro (or
barley) to the soup
and cook until soft
6. Add 2 additional
cups of water to the
stock
7. Turn off heat and
add ¼ cup of
nutritional yeast (tastes like cheese)
Note: It’s okay to add, change, or delete pretty much anything in this recipe. You can add or substitute other veggies like carrots and celery or … whatever. You could also use different spices or even substitute rice for the farro or barley.
Be sure to check your email after 9:00 a.m. Saturday morning to make sure we didn’t cancel or postpone the ride and don’t forget those helmets.
See you soon.
