Saturday’s
Weather
Saturday’s forecast calls for another great
day for riding
with partly cloudy skies, temps in the mid-70s, and a bit of a
strong breeze.
The
Ride
This
five-town ride includes a little bit of everything. The route travels on quiet,
scenic, country
roads with lots of farms and natural settings. This is a
beautiful route but
you’re going to have to work for your scenery.
Most of the ride is “roller coasterish” with lots of ups and downs. Most of the hills are fairly easy but there are a few tough ones on the route as well. The toughest hill, unfortunately, comes ride at the start of the ride. Maybe you could arrange something with Uber. Overall, we’ve rated the ride distance as moderate and the hills as “moderate-challenging”.

Social, Scenic, & Slow? Or
not slow?
For years, the Ashland Bike Club’s motto has been “social,
scenic,
and slow”. We figure our bruising 11 mph average speed puts us
squarely in the “slow”
category.
Well, not so fast (sorry!).
The article below seems to tell a different story. Using aggregate data, some data geek apparently derived an overall average speed for all rides recorded on the popular cycling app called Strava. Strava boasts more than 195 million users so the sample size is really large.
The average trip distance for these riders was a mere 12.8 miles. This is just about ½ the distance of a typical ABC ride.
The average moving speed for these Strava trips was a mere 11.86 mph which, given the shorter trips, is more or less the same average speed as an ABC ride.
Maybe we’re more social and scenic than slow.

Does everyone have knee pain?
I know as we age our aches and pains become a popular topic
of
conversation. Lately, though, it seems you’re more likely to
meet someone who
has had a knee replacement than someone who hasn’t.
The parts department must be doing a whole lot of business.
The article below talks about an experimental alternative to knee replacement. It might not be available for a while but it’s worth keeping an eye on.

See you soon.
