Saturday’s Weather
Saturday’s forecast
is calling for a
cool, cloudy day with temps between
58 and 65
degrees. A
windbreaker and
something with long sleeves might be a good idea.
Next week could bring rain from Sunday through next Saturday. They can’t be serious! The only good news is that we might catch a break on Wednesday for our midweek ride. The current plan is to do ABC’s Three Bike Paths and Lake Boon ride if the weather cooperates. Stay tuned for updates …
Saturday’s Ride
A few of our riders
have been asking
us to repeat our Mattapoisett ride which ABC has only done one
time
before. It’s a long way
to drive for “just
a bike ride” unless you really enjoy lots of beautiful ocean
views.
And, so, this Saturday ABC is heading to Mattapoisett. The weather looks kind of autumnish (is that a word?). Cape traffic should be minimal, and the route is spectacular. It looks like we’ll be getting one water view after another. Most of the planned route is on the Mattapoisett Rail Trail and the Phoenix Bike Trail although there are several scenic roads, too. And flat? You betcha!! With an elevation rating of just 25, there are very few routes ABC does that are flatter.
So, water views, country scenery, Cape “quaintness, and very nice cycling weather. The bad news? The ice cream place has closed for the season. It might be a good idea to bring lunch or something to eat for one of our rest stops.

Very few
ABC rides start and
end at a location as scenic as Saturday’s ride.
For most of us, getting to Mattapoisett involves
spending a fair amount
of time driving down there and back. If
you value water views, though, this rides for you.

The
Brand-New Adirondack Rail Trail
Many
ABC’ers have travelled
to upstate NY to ride the Erie Canal Trail. Some love it;
others not so much.
Well, there’s a new kid on the block that just opened this month.
Say hello to the Adirondack Rail Trail (ART). It’s 34-miles long (each way). I’ve spent many summers in the Adirondacks. The scenery is among the best I’ve ever seen. In addition to the ART, there are numerous other bike paths nearby and also numerous spectacular country roads in the area.
The links below provide lots of helpful route-planning details.

Vegan
Creamy Caesar Dressing
As most
bike riders know
all-too-well, including a salad dressing recipe in a bike
club’s ride notice
has become something of a must-have.
If you have all (or most) of the ingredients, you can probably make this incredible potion in under five minutes. It’s way, way too tasty not to give it a try atop a salad or in almost any dish you make. Feel free to add to or omit anything in the recipe.
This is definitely one of the very best recipes I’ve ever made.
INGREDIENTS
½ cup raw cashews
2 tbsp lemon juice
1 tbsp Dijon mustard
3 cloves garlic (peeled)
1 tbsp toasted sesame oil
1 tsp salt
1/8 tsp black pepper
Note: add a little
water if too thick
DIRECTIONS
Blend until smooth
To recap this Saturday’s ride, we’ll meet at 50 Ned’s Point Rd in Mattapoisett, Ma at 10:30 a.m. If spots are available, we've been asked to try to avoid parking along the water.
Don’t forget to check your email after 8:00 a.m. on Saturday to make sure we didn’t postpone the ride and … don’t forget those helmets!!
