MONDAY’s Weather
MONDAY’s forecast is calling for a partly cloudy day with temps between 55 and 60.  We prefer to schedule rides for Wednesdays and Saturdays but the weather has not been cooperating.  Hopefully, that will change soon.

MONDAY’s ABC Ride
We’ve planned a really short and scenic route for MONDAY that most of our riders should find fairly easy although there are several hills.

At just 21.1 miles, the ride is long enough to provide a solid workout but short enough to still be a part of our spring warmup series.

The route includes some great roads such as Dutton, Peakham, Candy Hill, Water Row, Sudbury Rd and Marlboro Rd.   There’s also an optional mid-ride lunch stop at Verrill Farm.

Here’s a link to a map of MONDAY’s route:  https://ridewithgps.com/routes/40313162

You can print our “official cue sheet” for the ride by clicking the link above, then click “More”, then click “Print Map and Cue PDF”, and finally click “Print Official”.

Off the Route
Our “Off the Route” feature includes tidbits we’ve come across that we think are worth sharing.  Please let us know what you think.

A Tragedy and a Lesson
A few weeks ago, former Yankee outfielder Brett Gardner lost his 14-year-old son while traveling in Costa Rica.  The boy died in his hotel room from carbon monoxide poisoning.  The next room over contained a gas heater for the hotel’s swimming pool that was not properly vented to the outside.

Lots of ABC’ers travel during the summer.  If you plan to travel, why not bring your own plug-in, battery-operated smoke / carbon monoxide (co) detector with you?  They’re lightweight, inexpensive, and they could save your life. When your trip is over, you can always use the unit in an unprotected room in your house.

Hudson River Valley Bike Tour
Here’s a real opportunity for you if you love bicycle touring but don’t have anyone to ride with.  Parks and Trails New York, New York State’s leading trail advocacy organization, is running a five day, 200 mile tour along the Hudson River. Forty miles a day mostly on a bike trail?  Piece of cake for every ABC’er!

When:  August 4 – August 9.

Where:  the ride starts near Albany, NY and heads down toward New York City.  There’s parking, shuttle buses to bring you (and your bike) back to the starting point, camping, meals, all sorts of goodies.

Read the details and be sure to watch the video about the tour:  https://www.ptny.org/events/hudson-valley-tour

One ABC’er, Tony Mistretta, has already signed up for the tour and he’s looking for more of us to join him.  Let me know if you’re interested.

See you MONDAY at 10:30 a.m. at Haskell Field in Sudbury.

Remember to check your email after 9:00 a.m. on MONDAY to make sure the ride was not cancelled or postponed due to weather or other reasons.  If there’s no email, the ride is on.  Oh, and, as always … don’t forget those helmets!!
