Hi Ashland Bike Club.

This past Tuesday night, I attended a meeting of the Friends of the Upper Charles Trail (aka the Milford Bike Path).

They are looking for volunteers to count trail users on May 15 and May 18.  On May, 18 they will need volunteers from 7 am to 7 pm.  On May 15, any time of day is OK.  They are hoping volunteers will give them a two-hour block of time.

The basic task is to count anyone who goes by your checkpoint in either direction.  They understand that some people will be counted two or more times but that's OK.  The data will be used both within Milford and in surrounding towns (including Ashland) to show how popular the bike path is.

I'm hoping some of us might either bike from Ashland to our assigned checkpoint (in Milford) or perhaps we can start from the trail's parking area on Route 85.

If you're interested in helping, please respond to this email.  Please let me know what time of day works best for you and whether you would be interested in a bike ride to get there.

Joel

Hi, Joel, I'll see if I can do May 15, and riding over there would be great!

I'm writing to follow up on the email below.  The Friends of the Upper Charles Trail (aka the Milford Bike Path) are looking for volunteers to count trail users on May 15 and May 18.  Several of you expressed interest in helping on Wednesday, May 15.

I'm planning to bike to Milford from Ashland to help with the counting.  If you're interested in participating on this ride or if you're interested in driving to Milford to help with the counting, please respond to this email.  I'm planning to take the 12 pm to 2 pm shift.  For those who want to ride, we'll meet at Stone Park near the Community Garden at 11:00 am.  The round-trip ride should be roughly 20 miles (or more if we want to ride the whole bike path).

I have instructions on how they want us to do the counting which I'll distribute to those who respond.  This is good visibility for the club and it will add credibility to our efforts to help extend the Upper Charles Trail to Ashland.

Please respond as soon as possible so that we can sign up for a shift and a location.  Thanks.

I'll post more about today's (Saturday's) scheduled ride a little later.  I'm still monitoring the weather to see whether we can still fit in a ride.

Joel
