We count on our members to help us increase the club's membership.  If you know other cyclists who might like to join our club, please provide them with the information shown below.  If you are not yet a member but would like to join, follow the directions below to apply for membership.  Both members and non-members are able to read all the content posted to the Ashland Bike Club website.  Only registered members, however, are able to post content here.

First, the easiest way to find the website for the Ashland Bike Club is to go to:  groups.google.com and then type "Ashland Bike Club" in the search box.  Alternatively, you can go to our site directly at:  http://groups.google.com/group/ashlandbikeclub.  Note that there is also an Ashland Bicycle Club (as opposed to Bike) which is not the same group.  If you want to go for a bike ride in Kentucky, sign up with them.

How do I apply to join the Ashland Bike Club?

Method 1 - Using a gmail or Google account:

If you have a gmail account or a Google account, you can request membership directly on the Ashland Bike Club website.  Before proceeding, make sure you login to your Google account by going to:  https://accounts.google.com/login.  After logging in, go to our website at:  http://groups.google.com/group/ashlandbikeclub.   Click the blue button in the center of the page labeled:  "Apply to Join Group".  Fill in the form and submit it.  It might take a day or two until your membership request is approved.  You should receive an email telling you how to activate your account.  Make sure you check your spam folder in case the email doesn't go to your Inbox.

Method 2 - Using a non-gmail address:

If you don't have a gmail account or a Google account (for non-gmail addresses - see below to obtain one), you will not be able to apply for membership using the website.  That's not a problem though.  All you have to do is send an email to:  ashland...@gmail.com and request to be added to the group.  We will send you an email with an "activation link" that will enable you to complete your registration to join the group.  This mailbox is checked less frequently than the website so please be patient.  Make sure you check your spam folder in case the email doesn't go to your Inbox.

Do you need a gmail account to post to the Ashland Bike Club forum?

There are two methods you can use to post to a Google group.  One is to post directly on the web; the other is to post by sending an email to the group as either a new topic or as a reply to an existing post.

Method 1 - Posting directly on the web:
To post directly on the web, you don't need a gmail account but you do need a Google account (see below to obtain one).  If you have a gmail account, it's the same as your Google account.  If you have a non-gmail account, your have to register that account with Google to obtain a Google account.  This won't get you a gmail account but it will enable you to login to Google groups.  You'll only need to obtain a Google account if you want to post directly on the web as opposed to posting to a group by sending an email.

If you have a gmail account, login to your account and then go to:   http://groups.google.com/group/ashlandbikeclub.  You can click "New Topic" to start a new thread or you can click "Reply" to respond to an existing post.

If you have a non-gmail email address (e.g. comcast, aol, msn or others) but would like to be able to post directly on the web (as opposed to posting via email), you'll need to register your non-gmail email account with Google.  To register your non-gmail address, go to:  https://accounts.google.com/newaccount.  Complete the form, login with your Google account and you should be all set to post to our forum directly on the web.  To login to your Google account, go to:  https://accounts.google.com/login.  After you've done this, visit us at:   http://groups.google.com/group/ashlandbikeclub.  You can click "New Topic" to start a new thread or you can click "Reply" to respond to an existing post.

Method 2 - Posting by sending an email to the group (i.e. not posting directly on the web):

All registered members are able to send posts to the group via email.  You don't need a gmail account or a Google account; you just need to be a registered member with an email address.  To start a new thread, send an email to:  ashland...@googlegroups.com.  You can also "reply" to a post or comment that another member has made by replying to the email you receive from the Ashland Bike Club.  Your email will be posted to the forum on the website either as a new topic or as a reply.   In addition to appearing on the website, members who have elected to receive an email when new topics or replies are posted will receive a copy of your post in their Inbox.

If you have questions on any of these procedures, members can post a reply here or by email (ashland...@googlegroups.com) or, if you are unable to do that or if you are not a member, send an email with your question or problem to:  ashland...@gmail.com.  We'll get back to you as soon as we can.

TIP:  To reply to a post via email, you can reply just to the author by clicking “Reply” in your email program or you can reply to the entire group by clicking “Reply to All”.

It appears that if you just click “Reply”, your reply will not appear in the online forum.  If you “Reply to All”, it will.
