Hi everyone.

GPS Address:  38 Fairbank Rd, Sudbury, Ma

Route Name:  ABC – Spring Warmup 4 (version III) – get the right version!

Ride Rating:

Elevation: Easy (42)
Total Gain: 632 feet
Steepest:  6.7%

Wednesday’s Weather
The forecast for Wednesday is calling for a beautiful, mostly sunny day with temps ranging from about 49 to 57.

The Ride
If you’re a fan of short and flat routes, don’t miss this one!! Although it’s only 15 miles long, this route manages to pack in some really great scenery and also includes our first optional lunch stop of the year (at Verrill Farm at the 8.7-mile mark). With one or two exceptions, this is a fairly flat ride.

This will be the club’s first time using this version of the route.  The new version was created to eliminate a dangerous and difficult turn onto the Bruce Freeman Trail which no longer is included in the route.

As with all our early season rides, we plan to keep the pace down to give everyone a chance to get back into shape after the winter.

You can print our “official cue sheet” for the ride by clicking the link above, then click “More”, then click “Print Map and Cue PDF”, and finally click “Print Official”.

ABC 2025 Memberships
Please note that all memberships from last year expired on January 31.  Although our insurance premium increased again for 2025 (what else is new), we’re going to keep the same $10 per year dues we’ve always had.

If you want to join the club for 2025, dues should be paid any time before your second ride of this season.  Our insurance automatically covers all riders for their first ride with the club each year; you will not be covered for subsequent rides until you pay your dues.  Memberships can only be paid for with cash; we have no way to accept checks or credit cards.  We often are unable to make change; please try to pay with a $10 bill.  Thanks!!

Emergency Contact Form
Have you provided ABC with your emergency contact information yet?

If you haven’t or if your contact information has changed, please follow the instructions below. If there are no changes and you provided this information to us in the past, we still have your contact information so you’re all set.

The Ashland Bike Club has created an “Emergency Contact Form” that offers our riders the opportunity to provide us with their contact information and also their emergency contact information.  Completion of the form is optional but recommended.  If you would like us to be able to contact someone in case of emergency, this is the information we’ll need.

We’ll try to bring an up-to-date list of everyone’s contact information on every ride.

The EMERGENCY CONTACT FORM can be reached by clicking here.

Willie will turn 92 next month!  We’ll pay him $10 if he rides with the club this year!!

This is an oldie but a goodie.  It’s Harrison Ford’s classic “broccoli” story.

There’s a Lesson In That
A young woman is doing an around the world bike ride.  She arrives in a small village in the mountains and is overwhelmed by the mountain scenery.  She sees an old-timer leaning up against a building and starts a conversation with him.

Bike rider:  This little village is the most beautiful place I’ve ever seen.  I’m actually thinking of moving here.  Can you tell me what the people are like?

Old-Timer:  Well, what were the people like in the last place you lived?

Bike rider:  Oh, they were horrible there.  That’s why I want to leave.  Everyone was just out for themselves all the time.

Old-Timer:  Well, I think that’s pretty much how you’ll find the people here, too.

The bike rider decides not to stay and continues on her journey.

The next day, another bike rider arrives in the village and sees the same man.

Bike rider:  This little village is the most beautiful place I’ve ever seen.  I’m actually thinking of moving here.  Can you tell me what the people are like?

Old-Timer:  Well, what were the people like in the last place you lived?

Bike rider:  Oh, they were great there.  There was a real sense of community and everyone watched out for everybody else.

Old-Timer:  Well, I think that’s pretty much how you’ll find the people here, too.

Someone once said that we don’t see other people as they are; we see them as we are.

There’s a lesson in that!

Be sure to check your email after 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday to make sure the ride was not cancelled or postponed.  If there’s no email, the ride is ON.

See you soon and … don’t forget those helmets!

Joel
