8th Grade Mentor

Hi all,

As part of the 8th grade year, my son is has a Middle School Capstone project that involves finding a mentor, completing a project, and then presenting it in the spring. He is initially interested in building a ray tracer from scratch, but that may shift after meeting with his mentor. I’m reaching out to see if anybody on the list would be interested, or perhaps knows someone that may be interested.

I haven't touched my Foley and Van Dam text since CS 483 ca. 1991, but I do generally still understand/remember how ray tracing works. I also have several contacts who work in the games industry by way of my involvement in C++ standardization. I'd have to see what's involved but I could possibly help.

Is he at AMS? My son will be an 8th grader next year as well.
