Hello Undesirables!

I am wondering if any of you would have time to give a quick guest lecture in my Zoom Systems Analysis class at SOU. What I envision is something that could be very informal and be a discussion about your career, how you find jobs, and what you do on a daily basis. The students are in their senior year and will be graduating in 2021 with a degree in CS, with a focus on programming. Many of them don't have much real world experience and would benefit greatly from hearing from a "real software engineer." :-)

The class meets MW 3:30-5:20. You could have about 45-60 minutes of that time any time you could do it. We don't have class on Wednesday, November 11th, and no classes Thanksgiving week, so it would be best to do this in late October or early November.

This would a good opportunity to meet some intelligent young people who are hungry to join the computer field and could be future hires if by any chance any of you are hiring.

Please let me know if you're interested. Thank you!

The dates fall right on top of the period we usually close the GCC feature submission window (aka stage1) for the next release, but I should be done with what I am on the hook for delivering in the next week or so, so I could likely do this.

Thank you Thomas. The dates are flexible if another date would work. It would be great to have you. Just let me know when and if you could do it, when you get a chance. Thanks!

As is the way of things (particularly when developing concurrency primitives is involved) the testing work is dragging on slowly, but, I think things are settled enough to firm up a commitment. Questions -

What is your schedule like between now and Thanksgiving break?

How much of a prepared talk vs Q&A should I be aiming for?

Hi Priscilla,

I would be happy to talk to your class. I'm an Engineer at Avalara. We do tax compliance. Please contact me and we can arrange a time.

Thank you!
