This is a reminder that a very important Special Town Meeting is scheduled for next Tuesday September 8 at 7 p.m. in Town Hall. Voters will be asked to authorize borrowing of $2.3M, representing approximately 60% of the cost of design and construction of a fiber optic network connecting every premise in Ashfield. A 2/3 super-majority is required.
This is a tremendously important event! It's critical that every supporter is present. Every registered voter in your house can and should attend. If the motion fails then we may never have an opportunity like this again. Let's make this an historic event with a record turnout.
In addition, there is a separate ballot vote on Thursday September 10 to exclude this new debt from Proposition 2 1/2, which caps the towns borrowing. The exclusion does not permanently raise our tax level, but is limited to the time of this capital borrowing. Polls are open all day. A majority vote is required.
I need get-out-the-vote help! I have WiredWest lawn signs that advertise the date of the town meeting and I'm looking for homes on major arteries into town as well as Main St. Please contact me if you are willing to place a sign on your property.
Second, I need volunteers to make phone calls to remind people about the town meeting. I can provide phone numbers and a simple script. Let me know if you can help.
Thanks so much and see you on September 8!
David
