Hi folks. Good news! Ashfield is more than 80% of the way to our backer goal, according to
https://register.wiredwest.net/. On the other hand, the remaining 62 backers will probably require some more friendly encouragement.
I'm looking for help as follows:
- Direct contacts. I have names of individuals who had expressed interest in broadband a few years ago. You could help me by contacting those in your neighborhood. Email me directly.
- Town dump. I think it would be helpful if we had volunteers at the town dump on the weekend -- maybe just the high traffic hours. I have flyers and registration sheets. The job would be to talk to folks who haven't signed up and encourage them to do so when they get home. (We don't take any money.)
- Road signs. I've started to place signs around town. Two on 112. One on West 116 around Spruce Corner. One on Main St. I have a few still in my car and can get a few more. I'd like to pick some strategic spots. Another on Main St. Another further south on 112. One or two in South Ashfield. And perhaps a couple on a few other arteries like Baptist Corner Road. Email me directly if you have a property with good visibility.
Beyond that, just keep mentioning it to friends. I continue to be surprised to find friends who just "haven't got to it, yet."
Note that the names of Ashfield backers on
register.wiredwest.net shows a lot of "anonymous" residents only because the mail-in form did not originally have a box to check to indicate that you were OK with your name listed.
Also, some people have asked about Ashfield's vote on the borrowing. The Select Board decided to not take this up at our Annual Town Meeting, but we will visit this in the summer at a Special Town Meeting. Some of the details that are currently unknown should be worked out by then, such as the cooperative bylaws, the MBI network design parameters, etc. Some folks are understandably feeling eager after hearing news of other regional towns passing their borrowing authorization.
Thanks!
