Service Update

Service is coming to Apple Valley!
As of today, there is a confirmed preliminary wireless path into Apple Valley. Service may be available as early as next Friday! Service details are not finalized as there are some technical details to work out... but it will be better than the satellite, cellular, and dial-up services currently available there.

If you are in the Apple Valley area, and would like to get on the schedule for testing and signup, please let me know.

Hilltown Networks is a DSL Provider...
Hilltown Networks is now registered as a DSL provider. I can usually sell DSL and / or Phone for less than most users are currently paying and Hilltown Networks becomes your technical support!

In the DSL coverage area, we can sell DSL without Phone, DSL with Phone, and only Phone.

If you are outside of the wireless coverage area, but have DSL available, please contact us to discuss your options! This applies to all areas that have DSL!

Other Expansion...
Hilltown Networks has other active projects in Ashfield, Buckland, Conway, Shelburne, and Hawley.

-------------

Please encourage people interested in bringing this service to their home to fill out the interest survey on the website. We are targeting areas with the greatest interest (So far, Apple Valley has had the greatest response).

If you know anyone in Ashfield Town Center who may be interested in acquiring service now, please encourage them to contact me.

Thank you!

Chris

I am guessing this does not apply to us out on Norman rd. Since you were already out here - but of course we'd be interested if it does.

We are definitely interested in service at the farm office in the apple storage at 580 apple valley road & I am hoping that I can get it at my house on the hill between Ridge Hill and Dana's house.

Hi Chris,
Bob and I are interested. We now have an AT&T hot spot. Would this service be better?
Thanks,
Jean Cherdack

Gayle,

Yes. You will likely receive service!

The purpose of my original visit was to see what it would take to get service to you, and to look for possible repeater sites to get service into the area. Now, there are viable repeater site to get there!

The model suggests the new coverage area will include:
  • Norman Rd
  • Apple Valley Rd
  • Clark Rd
  • Tatro Rd
  • Some S Cemetery Rd (The east end)
  • Some of Hawley Rd (near the intersection of Apple Valley Rd)
  • Some of Ashfield Mountain Rd (Approximately from Apple Valley Rd up to Stroheker Rd)
Coverage will vary based on actual foliage density (I have used a fairly conservative estimate, but the land cover data has relatively low resolution). Even if coverage is limited, this is the first step in improving service.

To be added to my map, please fill out this Interest Survey:

Hi Chris

Does this apply to Hawley Road?  I live on the Bear Swamp Reservation ( right side of the road headed toward Apple Valley, just below the Overlook picnic area).  We would be interested in Internet and telephone.

Carole:
The coverage model suggests Hawley Rd would receive coverage [if traveling westward] from about Tatro Rd to the curve past Apple Valley Rd.

Jean:
Different users have different perceptions and needs. I expect most people with a cellular device for Internet will prefer this service. It will not be without its limitations, though.

Some details about the project:
I have been looking for a good, clear path into Apple Valley. I am working on a solution that meets my standards, but it is still several months away from completion (and possibly in need of funding). So, I thought it might be useful to bring in a preliminary service in the interim. The service will be very low latency (better than satellite, cellular, DSL, and dial-up), and have no data cap (much better than satellite and cellular). The rated speed is expected to be somewhere in the 1-3 Mbps range (at the start).

I will be performing more testing over the next week and plan to have the speeds and details available later next week.

Thank you again for your interest.
-Chris

Hi Chris

I live above Tatro Road on the Bear Swamp Reservation just below the overlook.  We are surrounded by trees so I am not sure we would receive service.  How can I figure that out?

Thanks,
Carole

Carole, I empirically test each site. Sites that have a marginal signal may have the opportunity to install the antenna on an antenna mast to clear trees for an additional fee. In some cases, no work is needed, in others, just some trimming.

Once I have equipment installed at the repeater site, I will share the resulting estimated coverage maps. Anyone who hopes to receive service can contact me and we'll setup a time to test.

Thank you,
Chris
