Ithought when I had signed up to a cloud account that I would then be able to sign in on the desktop app and then also have access to the premium features there and the could storage. But, this doesn't appear to be the case, it wants me to create another premium account on the desktop.
It sounds like you need to upgrade your existing premium plan to one of the other 2 plans, but you can't do that from this web-site (this is just a user-to-user forum). Instead, contact Adobe at the official adobe web-site for your country (
www.adobe.com for the US) and use the Contact form there (there should also be a chat icon lower right of the screen).
I just though I'd add to this as I've had the same problem - however I found if you open lightroom on a Web browser, not through the desktop app, and sign in with your mobile details it appears to work!
Yes, the web portal is available with all subscription plans, including the premium LrMobile plan. It's good for troubleshooting sync issues, as it's a direct view into your actual cloud account, and it's also very good for album sharing as it has some features not available to any other Lightroom apps. However, it's a bit more limited in regard to the available editing tools in comparison to the other apps.
Okay, I open Lightroom Classic just now to import a job I just shot and the Desktop folder isn't there. Not a clue what happened. It was there last night, it's been there ever since I've used Lightroom (which is a long time).
Let me move this to the Lightroom Classic forum for you, where you are more likely to receive an answer to your question.
The Community Help forum is for help in using the Adobe Support Community forums, not for help with specific programs. Product questions should be posted in the associated product community.
Thanks for the suggestion. I checked and it's okay, all the boxes are checked for Lightroom. After I posted this I discovered the Desktop folder isn't showing up in my ON1 software either. I worked last night until about 11pm and everything was fine then. But this morning the Destop folder is gone in both Lightroom and ON1. Too weird.
I've only recently updated to Catalina and I seem to be having the same problem: no sign of my Desktop folder when I want to import photos in to LR. The funny thing is that my husband is also registered as a user on this computer, and thus I could import stuff from his folders, and his Desktop is there!?!
I still haven't had any luck getting my desktop to show up in Lightroom, or my On1 software. I checked on what Ian suggested above and everything seems to be set correctly. I've just been dragging everything to an external hard drive and then importing it to Lighroom.
Thanks for replying. Sorry to hear that you still haven't managed to solve this issue. There's something I vaguely remember (also, I might remember wrong!): when I first opened LR after updating to Catalina, I may have been asked by the system what folders LR can have access to, and I may have clicked the wrong button... But I'm really not sure anymore...
I checked the System Preference David suggested and my Lightroom has full access. I've pretty much given up getting my Desktop to show up in Lightroom. I always did what you do and kept things on my desktop until I was finished with them. But, now I just stick them on an external and work from there...
Yes, same here, LR has full access.. One thing I noticed yesterday: the Desktop is also missing from my Home folder on my iMac. However, on my Macbook it's in the Home folder, and it's available for LR when importing stuff. This may be the answer, although I have now idea how I could've removed the Desktop from my Home folder.. deleted it accidentally? Strange!
Could you please check if you have the Desktop in your Home folder? I think when you open Finder that's the default place it jumps to. If not, you can use menu bar in the top left corner and click Go -> Home
I am afraid there's no easy or simple solution for this problem in my case (see what I wrote below last week if you haven't already). I have friend who knows a lot about Apple products and such. He told me to try this when I am in my home folder: Command + Shift + . (that's the dot). This will show all the hidden folders. And guess what, my Desktop showed up as well! This means it got hidden somehow but I do not think by me!
Well, if nothing else it's given us a place to start. At least I now have an idea of why the Desktop folder isn't showing up... maybe. I tried messing with this approach a few times, but it seems I can't "unhide" the Desktop folder. I think I'm going to go ahead and try the complete re-install of the software and see what happens. I'll let you know if it works or not.
Why does LR Classic not allow me to upload, or even see desktop folders with files. I have to export folders to external HD and then I can imort to LR Classic. This is absurd. Is this a problem with Mac-OSCatalina 10.15? I cant find my desktop folders anywhere when trying to import. Do I have to put these folders somewhere else? I've been using LR for 10+ years and this is so frustrating. Maybe someone can help me understand what I might be doing wrong. Thank you.
I'm having exactly the same issue. It started with the 9.2.1 update.
I can't import files from my Memory card, Desktop or External Drives. I have checked in System Preferences and Lightroom has full disk access.
If I move the files to an existing folder and 'sync' that folder from within Lightroom, they will appear in the Library module. However if I try and Import them (even if I sync with 'show import dialouge') the files will not be seen by Lightroom.
The import dialog box will pop up, in the top left panel where it says select source you should start at your HDD drive where your Desktop folder is located. Drill down to select the desktop folder, see the screen capture.
I switch back to Desktop #2 (Lightroom) and keep working but whenever I do any action in Library, it returns me back to Desktop #1. It happens all the time, I've tried to adjust Mac settings in Mission Control but no help. What is the adjustment I need to do?
When I try to use Lightroom, which is on Desktop 2, it immediately switches back to Desktop 1 where I have other programs. When I come back to Lightroom's desktop and perform any action in the program, it returns me back to Desktop 1, and so on etc...
I love that this problem was reported 2 YEARS AGO!!! ADOBE, this issue is fu*king annoying and is still happening. I have to quit LR and reopen it so I can actually use it for 15 minutes in a separate desktop before it starts acting up again. When you switch to another desktop and then switch back it immediately jumps to the next desktop and you play this cat and mouse game trying to get the LR window to stay on the screen.
I have a feeling this has to do with LR trying to implement it's own window management code as opposed to using what's built into MacOS. The window seems to think it's bigger than it is and as a result it seems to bleed over the allowed space. I notice this most when I have it split with another app on my 34" screen.
I have photos on both my Mac Laptop and Desktop. I want all the photos that currently reside on the laptop moved over to desktop. If I export cataloge from laotop and open on desktop, will it then merge the images? Will it not move duplicates? Just want my ducks in a row before I do the catalogue export, (Some images may reside on both)
Thanks for reaching out! If you move all your images from one machine to the other, you may have to link the catalog with the new location of the images on the second computer as the location would differ. If the folder structure of the images does not change, you should be able to link the parent folder in the catalog & use the same folder on the second machine.
As for the duplicates, they will be in separate folders where they were in the laptop catalog and desktop catalog. If you then, in the Catalog panel look at all photos sorted by date created, the dupes should be side by side even though they are in separate folders, unless you have changed the date or time on the original files. Depending on what processing you have done to the originals when they are on separate machines, you may or may not want do delete one or the other.
With Adobe Lightroom Classic CC I went to All Photographs, located few photoshoots I've wanted to move out and dragged them to new a folder on an external drive. The folder now contains 20 GB of the images but my phone doesn't show more free space, it still says 45 GB of LR mobile library. I've tried to clear cache, kill and restart the app... nothing works...
If you haven't tried this already: In Lightroom Classic, Library module, look in the Catalog panel. Under the All Photographs collection that you already looked at, there should be a collection called All Synced Photographs. If it still lists many images, those are the ones still synced to the cloud and therefore listed in your iPhone. Select All Synced Photographs, then select all of those, then press Delete. You should get a warning that they'll be deleted from the cloud but not deleted from the desktop catalog. Confirm that.
Thanks Conrad. I'll try to experiment with deleting the synced files. So far I tried to move 3 GB but the space in LR mobile increased only by 400 MB. Maybe it needs more time than 15 minutes to detect the changes... everything was synced and looked fine (the number of all synced photos decresed) but I expected to see bigger change in free space.
How can I find out what's the real size of 'All Synced Photographs'? I don't understand it because Cloud Storage & Sync shows me 13000 photos and 94 out of 100 GB available cloud storage (that equals to 6 GB used), however in Local Storage section I see 38 GB under locally stored copies.
I tried to browse all synced photos in Airplane mode to see files stored on the phone but I see thumbnails only of few collections which I chose to store locally (4 collections with less than 300 photos)... nothing else... and that's weird because they definitely can't take up all 38 GB.
