Hi everyone,

I have some free time in the next 2 to 3 months and I've been thinking of rewriting asfermi (make it talbe-driven, so that assembler, disassembler and documentation can be generated from a single table, and that the whole project may become maintainable) and adding more complete support for the Kepler archs (sm_30 and sm_35).

The problem is that I can't do it without some financial sponsorship, as I need money and I do get paid in other jobs. So recently I've been trying to think of companies/organizations that might be interested in sponsoring the development of asfermi. Do you guys have any idea/suggestion of whom I should contact?

Thanks a lot,
Yunqing

Some of the contacts listed in the paper below such as Peter Schwabe maybe able to point you in the right direction - as a reference to asfermi was made in their paper. Also, perhaps other users of asfermi maybe willing to contribute through PayPal?

Thanks, Everett

Thanks Everett! Indeed, I should first talk to the authors of that paper. asfermi needs a register allocator to be more fun.

Will nvidia support you? Write to them and ask for help. I think they
will be glad that a team would provide tools for their cards.

If you can think of a research topic (which can lead to publishable papers) based on asfermi, my supervisor may be able to sponsor you (hire as intern, etc.).

Jianlong

Actually, the asfermi project has published lots of information.
But in the form of source code, and, wiki pages (what a waste!)

And many others had their papers based on asfermi. (but not the asfermi
authors!)

Hi everyone!

@HuanHuan
Thanks for the suggestion, though the fact is that Nvidia has their own assembler. They just refuse to release it to the developers.
Also, I'm actually only aware of 4-5 researchers (all in this group) who have actively used asfermi for real research, and only three of them published some results. Are you actually aware of more projects using asfermi?

@Jianlong
You know the mentoring system that SCE has? I happen to be Prof He's mentee :)
But I'm not looking for any source of stress, and my commitment will be dependent on the amount of sponsorship I can get. But thanks for reminding me! I'll ask him if I can get some initial momentum first.

Thanks everyone for your help! I'll work out a plan in a few days, put up an announcement on asfermi's project page, and start asking for money.
My current plan is to get started when I am guaranteed of $2500 USD, and the amount of work I do will be proportional to the amount of sponsorship I receive.

@Dima
Now that I figured I can't pay (even a part of) my tuition fees with the work I do, I've decided to go not for the money, but for the fun instead. But still, I have some even more interesting projects that I also want to work on, so I'd still need some motivation.

Thanks,
Yunqing

Hi Yunqing,

As I said earlier, for motivation I can offer some financial support, as well as help with drafting your technical reports and presenting them on various workshops, which will contribute to your skills & professional record, and will let you eventually pay for yourself, as well as open many new opportunities.

Do you have Titan GPU?

YQ, they don't release theirs, and you can do yours. and ask them for him.

for example, rCUDA(www.rcuda.net) is sponsored by nvidia.
