During congestion, users may notice lower speeds than other customers, and further reduction for heavy data users (>50GB/mo. for most plans), due to data prioritization; see plan for details. High-speed data on our network up to mo. allowance, then max 2G speeds for Mobile Internet plans and max 3G speeds for Mobile Hotspot. Plus taxes & fees for applicable plans. Get full terms

Our mobile hotspot data plans outshine the competition with competitive pricing, generous data allowances, and an extensive range of options tailored to fit your needs. We are committed to providing a seamless, hassle-free sign-up process, allowing you to enjoy smooth browsing with your mobile hotspot quickly.

That's a little vague. Presumably, your wireless devices could
connect directly to the hotspot, and a wireless bridge could let you
connect otherwise-wired-only devices to the hotspot. I see no real
need to "make a network" using another router. But I'm always open to a
good counter-argument.

Do you have a link to the app you used? I had someone else mention that they used Network Analyzer but the one I downloaded showed nothing about mobile hotspots on my test phones. Only the terminal solution worked for me.

@rfjohnso I also have a Pixel 6P, I just use ZeroTier for pretty much all instances I try to network multiple devices together. That IP never changes so it can be used in the KrakenSDR app for hotspotting as a solution, too.

I bought a TP-Link AC750 Wireless Portable Nano Travel Router(TL-WR902AC) and reserved a DHCP address for for the Pi in the router. Now, the Pi always gets the same IP and I can connect the router to whatever mobile hotspot or WiFi (or wired) LAN I want without having to change anything in the Pi or the devices that connect to it.

To answer your question @Garwig72, a mobile hotspot will work with Square Terminal. You would just need to connect to it as you would with any other wifi network. You can find the steps to do this at Connect to Your Network.

In regards to your iPad/iPhone battery, Apple would have more accurate information than we do on how using it as a hotspot would affect the battery life. My suggestion would be to have a backup portable charger on you to be safe. From personal experience, Mophie products have worked great when I have to charge my device on the go.

We have a food truck so we are always moving around; we have the Square POS app on an android tablet and we use a mobile hotspot (via bluetooth) all the time and it works great! We have a small mobile hotspot through T-mobile that we normally use, but on occasion we have used the hotspot built into my Samsung Galaxy 7 phone which also works fine. In addition to the Square register we also have a contactless credit card reader connected and the hotspot supports both. Hope this answers your question.

SmokinZ, I have a vending trailer and am interested in the new Square Terminal. But as you know, there are several locations that you may not be able to pick up wifi. I'm wondering if I use my iPad or iPhone as a Hot Spot for the Terminal, if it would work and if the battery on the iPhone or iPad would last as long as all day if needed to support the Square Terminal. I've never used Hot Spot before. Just need to know more about it.

Hi Garwig72, we don't have the Square terminal so im not sure if the mobile hotspot would work. We use the POS Square register app on a Samsung tablet along with a contactless reader and they work great. Sorry i couldn't be more help, let me know if you find out an answer about the Square terminal.

I am opening a food truck in just a few weeks that will not be at a fixed location but move from place to place (outdoor markets, events, etc.) Wondering if my mobile hotspot via Verizon will be sufficient to power the Square Terminal. I also plan to set up Bump KDS on an iPad device which I believe also uses wifi.

I know mobile hotspots can be slow sometimes, especially in crowded places or when there's spotty reception. But we'd love to not have to invest in a separate mobile hotspot device/data plan if it can be avoided. If anyone has insight on this I'd greatly appreciate it!

The No part is that you can't take advantage of a network on hotspot. I haven't used bump kds, but make sure you use a square stand with usb printer etc.. As long as you only need internet access you are good. A separate mobile hotspot is much cleaner to use. If you don't have service bumpkds may not work and you can't receive mobile orders. You can process offline but it does have more risk.

Mobile hot spots work and are great, the only issue that you may have is the potential of being in an are with no Service for the mobile hot spot. It really is a tricky thing to do with all the variables.

Turn your Windows PC into a mobile hotspot by sharing your internet connection with other devices over Wi-Fi. You can share a Wi-Fi, Ethernet, or cellular data connection. If your PC has a cellular data connection and you share it, it will use data from your data plan.

Several months ago the mobile hotspot stopped working in my GMC Acadia. When I turn the car on I normally get a message about it connecting to my phone and then another message about the wifi being connected. I still get the first message about the car connecting to my phone but not the second message. And when I try to connect a phone or tablet to the car's mobile hotspot it doesn't even show up as an available network anymore. So I took it to my local GMC dealer who did all the diagnostics and said that GMC said to replace the OnStar module. So after waiting a while to even be able to get one, we did that. They told me that I would have to contact OnStar to activate the new module which I did. When that was done and I told the OnStar agent the problem I was having, they tested it and said that they could get no wifi single out of the car at all. They said that it was probably either a loose wire or maybe it needed a new wifi module, and that I needed to take it back to the dealership. I did and the dealership has had an open ticket with GMC for a while now with GMC coming back gathering information and with things to try to no avail. Today I was told that GMC is saying that I need to update the Google ID. What??? What does Google have to do with my GMC mobile hotspot working? How would I update it and what would I update it to? It seems like GMC is still chasing down the path of connecting the phone to the car but that's not the problem. The phone is connecting to the car via bluetooth just fine. The car just isn't connecting to the satellites or wherever it gets wifi service from because there is no wifi available in the car. Has anybody else had similar issues or know how to update the Google ID in the car? Thank you.

This certainly is not the experience that we hope for. Our team would be happy to look into this further. So we can do so, please send us an email to socia...@gm.com. Be sure to include ATTN: OnStar Community/FLDan in the subject headline.

We do apologize for any ongoing frustrations with your in-vehicle data. Our team does understand your position, and we can certainly take a further look into your case and request contact on your behalf. If you need an additional layer of assistance, kindly email socia...@gm.com with ATTN: OnStar Community/Crubbalynch in the subject headline. We hope to hear from you soon.

I have two tplink cameras, NC 220 and NC200, which were working perfectly when connected to the Wifi network. My thoughts were, if a modem/router works, a mobile hotspot also will. I created a hotspot in my mobile phone, using the data connection supplied by the carrier, and tried to connect the cameras to it.

So I tried with a different phone, and exactly the opposite thing happened: I could connect another phone and computer to the hotspot but not the cameras (the light flashed green for a second but then turned red).

The most I could do was get an ip address of one the cameras and access it through the web server, I even got to the part where I can enter an address and password to add the camera to the cloud account but when I enter the data sometimes nothing happens, and the button that says Register turns blue as if I hadn't clicked on it; and other times I get an error message saying can not connect to Internet, check network settings.

What I did was create the hotspot with my phone, without password. I connected my computer to it. Then, I connected via Ethernet cable the computet with a Tp Link range extender and configured it. After that, I took the Ethernet cable out of my computer and plugged into the Tp link camera, leaving the other end plugged into the range extender.

I went into the Tp Link camera app and found the IP address of the camera, which I typed in Chrome to enter the camera's website. Once in it, I changed the network, to the wireless one I had connected on the hotspot, and I registered the camera in the cloud service (I had already created the account). And voil! I unplugged the Ethernet cable from the camera and plugged it into the other one to repeat the process. Finally, both my cameras were working fine, connected to the hotspot, and I could check remotely from the app or the web.
