As of Friday, March 11, our Libby/OverDrive collection has merged with a large consortium of libraries called the Indiana Digital Library. We are excited for this change because it gives our patrons access to a much larger collection of ebooks, digital audiobooks, and digital magazines from nearly 200 libraries across the state! The Indiana State Library will be paying the platform hosting fees for the group, which means that we can use 100% of our local library funds to purchase ebooks and audiobooks.
In 2023, a record-setting 152 library systems in seven countries surpassed one million digital checkouts. Of those 152 libraries, 23 library systems achieved the million checkout milestone for the very first time. In total, 662 million ebooks, audiobooks, digital magazines and more were checked out by users last year. A list of the most borrowed titles of 2023 can be found here.
After setting a record in 2022 for becoming the first library ever to hit ten million checkouts in a calendar year, Los Angeles Public Library set a new record by being the first library ever to hit twelve million checkouts in a calendar year. Toronto Public Library and MELSA were right behind them, each surpassing eleven million checkouts for the first time.
Explore other libraries for more! Your local public library can also be a resource for online materials, so you may want to search that in addition to these resources. New York State residents can apply for a New York Public Library card to access ebooks, including many picture book titles.
Following are a few examples of children's books in ebook format that are available through ONESearch. Most of the available items are nonfiction and biographies, but are specifically collected to address topics of high demand and popularity.
Explore Youtube for more! Many teachers, librarians and other educators often create video read alouds of various popular and new children's books. Search for a book by title in Youtube and see what comes up.
