How do I format a mixed number so I don't get an improper fraction instead?

In ASCIIMath, `1 2/3` (with a space between the 1 and 2) should show a
mixed number.
In LaTeX mode it would be $1\frac{2}{3}$ which produces a smaller
fraction, so it may be preferable.
I hope this is useful.
