To,

The Director General,

Administrative Staff College of India,

Bellavista Campus,

Hyderabad,

Andhra Pradesh

Respected Sir,

Subject: A humble request to the Board of Governors of ASCI to address the grievance of the present PGDHM participants

We, the hospital management participants of PGDHM 2 (07-09) have immense respect for the esteemed institution and highly regard our knowledgeable faculty members. We always have had high regard for this well known institution that has given guidance to many of us and has practically made what we are today.

It is our earnest request to you, sir to pay heed to the issues raised by the present Force 5 and Force 6 participants as not only their careers but also the institutions reputation and future is at stake. We are privileged to have been associated with the students of our consequent batches and felt proud while interacting with them via the web through regular alumni posts, ASCI horizons updates etc.

However with a heavy heart I wish to throw light upon the appalling condition that we had to face during out tenure in ASCI. We would like to convey that the past and current Programme Director (07-09, Sep2011), in our experience/ opinion has been unable to handle the responsibilities to the fullest.

We would like to specify certain incidences that were not acceptable to us and that these instances created issues which we had to endure during our stay at ASCI.

  1. As a Program Director: It was difficult for us to approach and speak our mind to the Director due to her set restrictions that no one to enter the cabin unless called in. This in turn created a fear in our mind and restricted our interactions. The only time we used to enter the cabin was when we were getting fired for no strong reason.

  1. Divide and Rule policy: We fail to understand why a united batch of 30 students were eventually divided and became foes of each other in an environment where they needed to be united and work as a team always. This also was initiated by the Director so that students could be targeted individually better.

  1. Classroom Atmosphere: Our class room atmosphere was filled with fear, anxiety always when the director was around on the floor. We weren’t allowed laptops in the classroom except for presentations, our seating arrangements used to be changed every single day and we had no choice as to who would sit with whom, we weren’t allowed to mix healthily with our peers, their was immense discrimination between the class mates at times even few of the faculty members were yelled at. We used to get fired by angry words from the Director if we were to do anything of our own mind. We felt and were always treated like we were prisoners. In short the atmosphere was very negative and led to lot of bitterness amongst students.

  1. Constant harassment of PGDHM participants: We would like to specify incidences such as: Calling us in the cabin and insulting us to the degree of utter humiliation for no fault of ours. Manipulating our marks and deliberately flunking us in our papers. Calling up or meeting our parents individually and insulting them. Restraining healthy friendship between girls and boys of the programme. We were not allowed to even heartily engage in recreational activities without being constantly pointed out, even at dining table we were watched and later shouted at individually if we got even a couple of minutes late. Constant watch on our activities even post college timings and then next day morning calling people individually and embarrassing and humiliating them. Behaving in a utter rude manner and threatening students by saying “internships are in my hand and no one has a choice of hospital to work with I will decide who goes where”. Informing only a handful of favourite students that hospital like BREACH CANDY and P.D Hinduja had approached students from ASCI batch 07-09 for internship.(this aspect came to light when one of our seniors Ms.Paulami Bannejee who was then the Hospital Administrator in Breach Candy disclosed that one of the students had approached Breach Candy and knew about the placement vacancy there while others were not even aware.)

  1. As a Placement Cell Head: We were the most unfortunate people as most of us got placed at the nick of the time in a very haphazard manner. There were students who were asked to get placements on her own and was not placed by the Programme Director.

We do not want this to sound like a letter to malign the Programme Director but we were terribly unhappy by the way we were treated and feel the pain even today. Having said this- We also wish to inform that with the entry of Mr.S.Baquer and Dr.Yamini Atmavilas and Mr.Harish the situation and the environment had drastically changed and seemed more at ease. Even though our batch had very little time to interact with them during our thesis presentations, we were really touched by the wonderful human beings that they all are. We are proud to have been associated with them.

We wholly support our Force 5 and Force 6 students. Please sir, it’s our request do something to reduce the agony of the students and create a healthier and friendlier environment at ASCI so that there is symbiotic relationship between the seniors and the participants.

With respects & regards,

PGDHM 2 participants (2007-2009)
