Dear Commodore Gault,

On behalf of San Diego Yacht Club, I would like to extend to Channel Islands Yacht Club the opportunity to apply to challenge for the Sir Thomas Lipton Challenge Cup in the 110th running of the regatta, which will be held this fall in San Diego. Since the first time the regatta was held in 1903, this has been the most prestigious trophy contested in Southern California and one of the most coveted on the West Coast.

This year San Diego Yacht Club will be defending, having won the Cup in 202
4 by defeating a distinguished list of clubs with skilled teams from Southern California and beyond.

This year’s event will be held October 2
4 - October 26, 2025. This is typically a time of beautiful fall weather with clear sunny skies in San Diego. The racing will be held in the South San Diego Bay, which boasts flat water, reliable and consistent breeze, and opportunities to spectate from our members’ boats.

The Notice of Race and Application to Challenge form are posted online at www.sdyc.org/liptoncup. The Application to Challenge must be completed by May 1, 202
5. The website provides information about the event; however, if you have any additional questions, please feel free to contact Dave Vieregg, Lipton Cup Regatta Chairman.

To ensure fairness, the regatta will be sailed round robin using equalized J/105 sloops provided by SDYC, the Organizing Authority. These boats are chartered from local J/105 owners and, as a result of their ongoing participation in local events as well as the Lipton Cup and International Masters Regatta, are maintained at a high caliber. We thank the owners for continuing to make their boats available for these events.

Please apply to challenge for the Sir Thomas Lipton Cup Regatta by May 1, 202
5. We will review applications and select 11 teams to race in San Diego this fall. Selected clubs will receive a notice of their acceptance by June 15, 2025.

Thank you for your continued interest in SDYC's Lipton Cup. May the fastest team win, and may everyone have a great experience and represent your clubs with honor on the racecourse.

Best regards,

Stephen Malowney
Commodore
