3 I thank my God every time I remember you. 4 In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy 5 because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, 6 being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.
Meditation:
This season of quarantine has given many of us, myself included, the chance to ask ‘God, what would you have me to do’? If I can be honest, the first Village meeting of this season felt like exhaling a breath I was not aware I was holding. As members of my Village shared that they missed their favorite seat in the sanctuary, their ministry activities, and hugging one another, most of us would trade our gripes about sitting in overflow for the chance to hug one another in the Narthex right now. We reach out to touch one another in prayer, and it still feels so good to hear each other pray over our shared requests through Zoom.
This letter from Paul to the church at Philippi, Greece, reminds me that the church has always been about the people, like my Village, however much we may miss the building. God’s answers to our questions are sometimes provided through texts that remind us that although we are apart, the work of the Kingdom is still getting done. Notable figures like Lydia advanced the Kingdom through opening her home and through Paul, baptizing her whole household, according to Bible.org. So today, instead of asking God what he would have me to do, I’m texting scripture art to my friends, calling my loved ones, and praying for everyone I know. It may not bring about the completion of the good work Paul references, but for me, it’s progress!
Prayer:
Dear Lord, help us to be consistent in our prayers and thanksgiving unto you. Lord, help us to seek you out for what you would have us to do in Jesus name Amen.
