Washington, D.C. – February 19, 2013 -- STR8-N-UP Productions, Inc. (STR8-N-UP) announces its second HIV/AIDS-themed play The Dance.   The play follows two women and the men in their lives through their experiences with the HIV virus and their opposite outcomes.  The story illustrates the fact that seniors, once thought unlikely to be as vulnerable as other groups, are very vulnerable with rates of new cases alarmingly high.  The audience will be treated to shocking honesty, heart-warming sincerity, humor, and life-affirming courage. Free HIV testing will be provided at the site.

S TR8-N-UP is requesting assistance in making the community aware of this event.

The purpose for this production is to focus awareness on the challenges and courage of women coping with their HIV positive status.  The play shows how they relate to their peers and to the men closest to them. With support from the District of Columbia Commission on the Arts and Humanities, and Silent Partners, STR8-N-UP is continuing its commitment to employing psychodrama to promote healthy lifestyles and safe sex.

The goal is for the community to be conscientious about knowing their own status, become more sensitive toward people living with the virus, and to commit to maintaining lifestyles that will slow the momentum of this epidemic. The production incorporates dancing, singing, and humor to deliver its message. Music for the play will feature music composed and performed by Nicholas "Nizam" Smith, co-authored by Ted "Hakeem" Carpenter (founding members of DC’s own Fathers Children). STR8-N-UP Productions, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) production company based in Washington, DC. Donations are appreciated.

FREE HIV TESTING WILL BE AVAILABLE AT THE VENUE.
