to ASA Food Studies Caucus
I hope everyone had a great new year.

I am contacting everyone to remind of two things:

One, we are putting together a Food Studies Caucus Administrative/
Organizational Panel. If you are interested in taking part in this
Caucus in an organizational role, please let me know.

Two. If you that if you have not done so, please officially register
for the ASA Food Studies at our website at http://www.theasa.net/caucus_food_studies/

It is very important to the existence of this caucus that we have our
official enrollment as high as possible. As I have mentioned in the
past, this is not only how the ASA counts enrollment in the Caucus
(which is important for allocation of resources) but it will also be
the way to receive all official communication from the caucus.

The steps to register for the Food Studies Caucus are as follows:

1. If not already done so, register as a member of the ASA, which can
be done on their website at http://prostores2.carrierzone.com/servlet/theasanet/Categories?category=Membership
2. Create an account on their website at www.theasa.net/register
3. While logged in visit the ASA Food Studies Caucus webpage at
http://www.theasa.net/caucus_food_studies/
4. Click the “Join this Group” link, which is located on the Lower
Right of the Page under the Member Tools Column.
5. You will officially be registered as a member of the ASA Caucus.

I do realize that joining the ASA requires a registration fee. Anyone
not interested in paying that fee to join the ASA, but wishes to
remain involved in the Food Studies Caucus, please join our Google
Group Page (as you already have) at http://groups.google.com/group/asa-food-studies-caucus/members
I also encourage everyone to circulate CFPs, funding opportunities,
research questions, published work and any other academic endeavors
through this group and its email list.

However, I do want to stress to everyone that if possible, please
register through the caucus through the ASA Website. It is important
to our recognition as a caucus within the larger ASA and the
possibility of gaining funding for events, sponsoring of panels, etc.

There will be more information about ASA Food Studies Caucus events
and what we are planning for this years ASA Conference in the coming
weeks.

Take care,

John
