Date of appearance in feed - IMPORTANT feature request

Hello everyone!

Since several months I have faced this problem in different apps. I am not a developer, but I have been testing all types of arxiv app I could get. None is sufficient to check papers daily in a proper way, since the api does not provide the date of appearance in the feed.

Now, I am going to explain the problem in detail, which all aps or websites relying on the api have.

1. I choose and set up an api relying on arXiv with the intention of checking the arxiv daily on a device.

2. [FIRST PROBLEM: 1 day difference] Scenario: I am checking the papers of the day, but wait! Those papers have the date of yesterday, since they were published the day before the day of appearance.

3. [SECOND PROBLEM: Several days difference, sometimes even 4 days] Scenario: I know this paper that my colleagues or myself published on arxiv 3 days ago, but it was not accepted right away. Everyone is telling me is alterady in arxiv, but I don't find it in my feed. Oooooh, it is all the way down the feed, before even that those papers that dot accepted two days ago.

4. [THIRD PROBLEM: Missing out papers] Scenario: I am updating my feed and, without me knowing, new papers pop out at different dates, some appear 1 day before, some 2 day before, some 3, some 4, ... I am all happy and trusty, so I check the papers of the day, while I am missing all those new papers that just popped out and are mixed with the old ones. Yes, surely, those new popping out and the old papers were both published at the same time, but I clearly didn't see the new ones right the day after the authors send them to arxiv, since arxiv didn't accept them right away.

For these reasons and until this feature is included, not any app based on the api can provide with an updated and proper feed for anyone checking the arxiv DAILY. You rather use the arxiv itself, or an app based on RSS feeds, like scirate or any other basic RSS app. This is a pitty! You are missing a huge potential to filter out the daily feed with your personalized search (keywords, categories).

Please, consider including the date of public appearance / acceptance by the arxiv commitee / availability on arxiv / arxiv published date / any name you want to include here, but something that is consistent with the daily feed of arxiv.

Hey Senaida,

Thank you for comprehensively describing this limitation of the API (and most of our other interfaces, for that matter). We are also frustrated by this limitation. Luckily, we do have a roadmap for addressing it on the backend. Once this is fully implemented, the ability to query/filter by announcement date percolate out to all appropriate interfaces.
