“Legacy arXiv API”?

Hi,
on the help page “Terms of Use for arXiv APIs” <https://arxiv.org/help/api/tou>, there is the statement
> Our APIs include our OAI-PMH interface, RSS feeds, the legacy arXiv API, bulk data downloads, SWORD bulk deposit API, and services available via the arXiv API Gateway.
where the words “legacy arXiv API” link to <https://arxiv.org/help/api/index>. I was wondering about this phrase – in what sense is the API <https://export.arxiv.org/api/> “legacy”? Will it be retired in the foreseeable future? And what is the current recommended/“non-legacy” API?
