public author identifiers and the api

Have you considered making arxiv's public author identifiers [1]
available through the api? It would be nice to be able to query by
author identifier, or to be able to obtain an author's identifier e.g.
as an attribute to the <author> tag anytime entry metadata is
returned.

yes, this is on the todo list -- and has been suggested on this group before.

However due to slow uptake of author identifiers at arXiv, only a
small (but growing) fraction of arXiv papers are currently linked to
author ids, so their utility is currently somewhat limited.

Hi Noella,

We don't yet have the arxiv author identifiers available via the API. Our current work in this area is to enable linking of author identifies with ORCID ids. Our first integration should be live in the next couple of months.

me to provide a comma separated list of names. Is there going to be a new

Hi David,

Unfortunately work on a facilities to enter and store author details
separately is some time off. It is not on the roadmap for this year.

On a positive note, we have just pushed out changes to allow association
of an ORCID with arXiv user accounts, see:

http://arxiv.org/help/orcid

This is then tied to the notion of article ownership and claiming, see:

http://arxiv.org/help/authority

The ORCID data won't yet appear anywhere but we are working to add it to
author pages and feeds.
