This is described in the API user manual here: https://info.arxiv.org/help/api/user-manual.html#51-details-of-query-construction

In order to query a specific category, you have to use the `cat` query flag. So for example: 

http://export.arxiv.org/api/query?search_query=cat:quant-ph

and then build out the rest of your query based on the other terms you're looking for. For example, if you were looking for articles in quant-ph that mention dots (as in quantum dots), the search would look like: 

https://export.arxiv.org/api/query?search_query=cat:quant-ph+AND+abs:dots

etc. Note that if you just want ALL of quant-ph, the OAI-PMH is probably a better route (or download the complete metadata via Kaggle). For all bulk metadata options see:
