Is it just me or is it a bug? I have a nighttime shortcut that runs several actions and in the end it activates airplane mode. Unfortunately the airplane mode only gets activated on my iPhone but not on the Apple Watch, even though my AW is configured mirroring this state.

Have Watch OS 4 GM on my watch. If I turn off Wifi, and Bluetooth on my iPhone (with iOS 11 GM) my watch still shows the iPhone icon (not the cloud icon) and I can still launch all apps and get data. Also when wifi is on on the iPhone in this area it connects to a corporate net work that watch can not access so i do not think the watch is connecting over wifi. If i put my iPhone in airplane mode then the watch shows its disconnected and no apps can get data.\
I have 2 movies I downloaded from ITunes that I would like to watch on an airplane. I'm testing that currently and when I put the IPAD into airplane mode and go to Itunes, it says it cannot connect to Itunes because there is no network. How do I 'browse' to my downloaded movies in Itunes to watch the movie without wireless or 3G?
I have never rented a movie but simple logic tells me that you would have to be able to watch a fully downloaded movie on the iPad while in Airplane mode. I look at it this way ... movie rentals would be a perfect way for iPad users to pass the time away on airline flights and Apple never leaves any dollar on the table if there is a way to get that dollar into their coffers. Why wouldn't they let downloaded rentals be viewed in Airplane mode. An authorization issue???? Methinks not.
I mean stop and think about it - Apple makes money through these remntals and there is no way that you can watch a movie on a filght in Airplane mode? That is sort of counterproductive for a compnay trying to earn a profit. I would think that movies rentals on airplane flights would be an Apple Match made in heaven ... no pun intended.
I need help. I downloaded 2 movies and tried to do one tv show. Received warning...out of space. So, I deleted my son's game apps! While on iphone I can go to the movie, in the regular search, and it has a "watch" option. But, that's within the store. When I select More, Downloads, only the TV show (which didn't complete) is there.
I can see my rentals on itunes on my laptop. Instructions note to "move" them. Move them where and how? I don't see any options in the drop down menu that make sense to me. Note, I use the music app to listen not iTunes. So, please provide simple instructions. How/where do I move them so i can watch on the airplane..I have an 8 hr flight today?
Brightness. Dim the screen to the lowest comfortable level to achieve maximum battery life. For instance, when watching a video on an airplane, you may not need full brightness if the cabin lights are off.
When I turn on airplane mode on my iphone 6 it does the same on apple watch (which is ok), but when I turn off Airplane mode on the Iphone, apple watch keeps saying that is Locked due is on Airplane mode, in other words, after applying the change on Iphone, Apple watch is not following the change.
I'm forced to turn off the Apple watch and then power back on, normally, this works on the first try but I have run into a few cases that I need to reboot twice. I'm pretty sure this is a buggy issue that apple will fix.
In the meantime, I tried to set up a passcode (4 digits), however, I don't option on the Iphone watch app looks like disable, when I trying to slide off the "Unblock with Iphone" it won't work, also when I tried to slide on the "Simple Code" feature it looks like fade. So I'm stuck right now.
When your watch is in Airplane Mode, it has Bluetooth and Wi-Fi disabled, so there is no way for it to receive any further instructions from your iPhone (including an instruction to exit Airplane Mode if and when the mode is turned off on your iPhone).
- When viewing the time on your watch, swipe up from the bottom edge of the watch face > swipe left/right to the Settings glance > tap on the Airplane Mode button to turn the mode off > swipe down on the screen again to exit Glances.
Passcode restrictions (for example, a requirement to use a complex passcode, longer than 4 digits) that are set on a managed iPhone also affect Apple Watch, so you would not be able to make certain changes to passcode settings on your watch.
This same exact call from a favorite will ALSO RING on my Apple Watch even though the Watch is in airplane mode. Once again, I am 100% certain that my Apple Watch is in airplane mode. It gets even stranger. This does not happen every time. I tested it a few times and sometimes the call from a favorite will ring on my Apple Watch (in airplane mode) and sometimes it will not (in airplane mode).
It seems with the later iOS, when the Apple Watch is in Airplane mode, it is still connected to the iPhone. Check on your watch, and you should see the connection icon on the Watch. If that is the case, it would still ring. I'm not sure the reasoning behind this, as I felt the same that Airplane mode is Airplane mode, but it seems that Bluetooth will remain on by default on both the Watch and the iPhone.
I was on a plane so my watch was in airplane mode. I left the watch on the plane. I have reported it lost to Apple and the airline. It is passcode protected. What can I do to protect my information and/or thwart any thieves from using it?
Since a few days I have an Apple Watch and I really like it. I just wanted to know if I could use my watch in airplane mode all day, and at the end of the day I connect it to my iPhone to let all my health data sync. Is this possible?
How long does my watch collect data when it isn't connected to my iPhone? Today I woke up very early in the morning and I put on my watch (in airplane mode). A few hours later, I disabled airplane mode and all my health data from the last few hours (e.g. heart rate) was synced immediately to my iPhone. Does that even work when my watch is in airplane mode the whole day?
Since the title of the question is about the disadvantages of Airplane mode, know that placing your WATCH in airplane mode will preclude you from connecting to the Internet. Therefore, any feature that requires an active Internet connection will not work. Siri comes to mind.
Finally, since the Bluetooth antenna is also disabled, you will be unable to connect a set of Bluetooth headphones, or an external heart rate monitor. Any app that requires an iPhone connection will not work either, meaning all watchOS 1 apps, as well as many, if not most, watchOS 2 apps. GPS via your iPhone will also cease to function.
@XfinityBillie, Yes, I have downloaded multiple programs. No, i can't view any of them. The weird thing is, I can view them if I download them on my phone, but not my Samsung Galaxy Tab A. Now, once I'm no longer in airplane mode, it's not an issue.
It makes sense that your Apple Watch will go into Airplane Mode when you do it on your iPhone. But it also makes sense that it can't turn off Airplane mode automatically when you turn it off on your iPhone -- how can the watch know your iPhone turned off Airplane mode? Airplane mode means it is disconnected, so it can't receive that information.
I just got the apple watch 7 without cellular and I was wondering how it will work if my iPhone is on airplane mode on the cruise. Will it change time zones? Does it stay hooked up to my iPhone? If I use the ships voom with my phone will the watch work like it does with my cell plan at home?
This brings up a good point. I know the OP said her watch does not have cellular capabilities, but for those who do, you probably want to shut that off while on the ship to avoid potential roaming charges.
An Apple watch on a ship will leverage the associated iPhone for it's connectivity. If you have a paid Voom internet plan and your phone is logged into Voom the watch will work much like at home. If you don't have a paid Voom internet plan your watch will not be much more than a watch while also notifying any calendar or reminder events your phone has programmed.
I have a Google Wear OS watch with cellular, but like you, I found no value in paying $10 (actually closer to $15 with fees and taxes and fees) just so it would work when it wasn't near my phone (or not on a wifi network). I I bought the watch outright - not on installments - so I kept it. I just dropped the service plan and turned off mobile data. i just checked and it does have an option for data roaming (which is off with mobile data off), so it may still worth checking for watch users. I'd hate to incur a bunch of data roaming charges because I walked out of without either the watch or phone so that their Bluetooth signal is out of range and the watch starts using mobile data.
It is not an issue as you say but but there is an exception as far as international roaming. Watch series 5 or later will call local emergency services. No charges though if your watch calls Emergency services and you don't have to be signed up with domestic plan. You only have to have a GPS + Cellular Apple Watch.
