In the spirit of what this group is for I am pasting below some questions that I emailed to Ken.

In the quickstart guide it mentions starting a skype call (something I didn't encounter in the videos), so could you help me be a bit clearer on the setup process and the requirements for each performer.

Do all performers need to install the Artsmesh software, or am I able to be the sole point through which they all come in via Skype or other platform?
How do I go about setting up a group call with Skype and Artsmesh so we have the performers visually and audibly (they will all use AIs and not external mics)?
As some of the performers I'll be working with are technologically fragile, shall we say, what's the easiest way for a performer to join the session without getting too techy for them? [This may be moot if all performers MUST use the app, question is aimed at quick linking performers]

JackAudio/JackTrip etc were made for use over a high bandwidth LAN, as a home user what bandwidth can we expect to use if there were 2 users; 4 users; and 8 users, please? What would be the expected minimum internet connection for the host (me), and for the performers?

yes, you should jump on some kind of chat/video message platform just to organize the connection processes
for the uncompressed audio. After a couple times of connecting with peers, you won’t need this because you
all know what group to join and who will be server, etc.

the rest of your question points to multi-variable scenarios for different kinds of projects (audio electronic/acoustic, video, open sound control, graphic scores).
Join our zoom at noon and we can try to address a specific instance.

you can connect audio to any jacktrip session even if people don’t use artsmesh. Skype or zoom are just used for connecting things (stage management).
or you can use zoom/skype video for the performance and artsmesh uncompressed audio.

after you connect the audio in artsmesh, you can turn off the mics for Skype during performance.

yes, that is the question. We’re in the process of making a simplified version for just the audio connection. automating a basic stereo connection.

Home connections are better now than a few years ago. most providers offer 1gig download, even if there is still limited upload. minimum 100M download/10 up.

The person with the best bandwidth should open their ports 4464-4474 and be server to the whole band/ensemble.
Everyone else sends a stereo feed (upload) to server. server can send stereo mix back to each - though this way adds latency.
there are too many other scenarios to cover. there’s always work arounds.

Thanks for starting the conversation!
Ken

Apologies that I wasn't able to join the zoom. I was out of my home and didn't arrive back until 8.40pmBST (12.40PT)

I shall try getting those with Windows machines to do JackTrip, and see if we can get this working.
