We're going to press tomorrow morning with the program and I wanted to
get everyone's approval on a few changes to the BOS blurb and mission
statement copy. Please feel free to revise

BOS Blurb on front of program, we are proposing these changes:

>> "Bushwick Open Studios is an art festival organized entirely by
>> artists and curators, where everyone is welcome to participate. Our
>> goal is to create a open and inclusive environment that benefits the
>> community through the sharing of collaborative projects that fosters a
>> a greater engagement with the arts."

In light of our discussion a few weeks ago in regards to the mission
statement, I would like to propose we make a few grammatical changes
to the statement, and omit a few words that were giving people a hard
time.

I want to propose:

"We are an all volunteer organization that supports the community
>> through creative accessibility and engagement. It is our goal to
>> create a integrated and sustainable community and to organize Bushwick
>> residents and stakeholders to counter development-driven
>> displacement."
>>
Please let us know your thoughts

I also proposed some changes, as follows:

BOS Blurb:

"Bushwick Open Studios is a self-organized, collaboratively produced art festival. Bushwick community members are encourged to participate by presenting art work, organizing activities, and assisting with festival operations. The purpose is to create an open and inclusive festival that benefits the neigborhood through sharing artistic projects, and encouraging community interaction and dialogue."

Also, a small edit for the geographical info section:

"Bushwick Open Studios takes place over three square miles of the northern tip of Brooklyn. To help you get oriented, we have designated locations to act as informational hubs. These hubs are often near public transportation. You can drop into any hub and find Arts in Bushwick volunteers who can provide you with general assistance, maps, promotional materials, and information about the various studios and events in that particular area."

I also strongly feel that the mission statement should begin with "Arts in Bushwick is  . . ." not "We are . . ."

Thanks!
C.

I support Chloe's edits to the BOS blurb and geographical info, with one edit - I would say "northeast brooklyn" rather than "the northern tip of brooklyn"

I also support Steve and Maggie's mission revision (for purposes of the BOS program, to be revisited in future), pending confirmation at tonight's meeting.

I support Chloe's revisions on the BOS copy, although I would like to
change the ending to read: "(foster) or (encourage) a greater
engagement with the arts."

"Bushwick Open Studios is a self-organized, collaboratively produced
art
festival. Bushwick community members are encouraged to participate by
presenting art work, organizing activities and assisting with festival
operations. The purpose is to create an open and inclusive festival
that
benefits the neighborhood through sharing artistic projects,
encouraging dialogue
and fostering a greater engagement with the arts.

So the mission statement, revised for the purpose of the BOS program,
would read:

"Arts in Bushwick is an all volunteer organization that supports the
community
through creative accessibility and engagement. It is our goal to
create an integrated and sustainable community and to organize
Bushwick
residents and stakeholders to counter development-driven
displacement."

Does anyone else want to chime in on this topic?

It would be really great if we could come to some kind of a consensus
here, before the meeting tonight.

What do you think of this mission revision?  I just love the phrase "supports the community"... maybe this is clearer and more specific?

"Arts in Bushwick is an all volunteer organization that serves and engages artists and other neighborhood residents through creative accessibility and community organizing.  It is our goal to create an integrated and sustainable community, and to bring together Bushwick residents and stakeholders to counter development-driven displacement."

I would change the "community organizing" back to "engagement". otherwise seems ok to me.
