Dear ALIers,

BAC is producing a curatorial project commemorating the 1st anniversary of Superstorm Sandy and we have a call out to visual artists and writers.  I have included a short description and link below.  Please share this info with any artists or groups you think would be interested.  Thank you!  By the way, I am looking forward to seeing you all at the upcoming roundtable.

Best,

Courtney

CALLS FOR SUBMISSIONS: Visual Artists and Writers

For and About: Art and Reactions to Superstorm Sandy

Curated by Radar Curatorial

Deadline to Apply: June 5, 2013

Exhibition Dates: September 27, 2013 – February 14, 2014

BAC Gallery seeks work that extends beyond documentation for For and About: Art and Reactions to Superstorm Sandy, a curatorial project focused on how artists experience and interpret natural disasters. The show is open to visual and literary artists based in Brooklyn, who wish to present work dedicated to people affected by Hurricane Sandy, and/or about the storm’s impact on Brooklyn.  For and About is an opportunity to focus on the communities hit hardest by the storm, creating a space to reflect on the collective and individual experiences at the one-year anniversary of the storm.

The project will include a group exhibition of visual artworks on display in BAC Gallery as well as a site-specific installation integrated into the Dumbo community during the Dumbo Arts Festival. For this multi-faceted curatorial project, Radar Curatorial will also gather written work along the same theme to present in a limited-edition printed zine and to publish online at brooklynartscouncil.org.
