Habitat Presents TaleSpinners in "Revealing
the Art of Story
Telling"
Arts
Habitat will present story tellers Mary Zweig,
Judy Karas and Carol Collin, three members of
TaleSpinners, on Thursday, August 20, as part of
their event series Arts in Progress: Third
Thursdays with Arts Habitat. The events
take place every third Thursday of the month at
the Monterey YMCA, 600 Camino El Estero, at
Webster Street, from 7:00 to 9:00 pm. Refreshments
are served and the events are free and open to the
public.
TaleSpinners is a
nonprofit organization formed in 1986 and
dedicated to the idea that storytelling is an
important art, one that the story tellers wish to
further. Members include librarians,
schoolteachers, writers and others who have a love
of the spoken word. Some of the tellers
incorporate music into their tales: for example,
two play the harp and one plays the recorder. They
have told tales at the Monterey Public Library in
the Stories for Adults program, and members
regularly tell at schools, libraries, meetings,
retirement homes, private parties and public
events.
