I"m not really sure, but this theory sound much like the "chaos and
complexity" theory discussed in one of my management books. (as
opposed to "command and control.")

Think about projects that work and ones that don't (or exhibits for
that matter) and look at these elements of being in "flow"

Clear goals
Concentrating and focusing
A loss of the feeling of self-consciousness
Distorted sense of time
Direct and immediate feedback
Balance between ability level and challenge
A sense of personal control over the situation or activity
The activity is intrinsically rewarding

When in the flow state, people become absorbed in their activity, and
focus of awareness is narrowed down to the activity itself, action
awareness merging

This always happens to me when I am painting..
the goals... just to paint
focussing on seeing
totally unaware of world around me and scream if startled
either feel like I just got there or that I had been there all day
have aha moments and moments of dispair
challenged but confident too
this is the only thing I can control
and it is rewarding!
