În seria Viewfinder (Vizor) prezentată în expoziţie, Aurora Király „re-citeşte”, din perspectiva prezentului, fotografii pe care le-a realizat cu aproape două decade înainte.

Vizorul este un dispozitiv al aparatului de fotografiat care permite utilizatorului să selecteze ceea ce va apărea în imagine. Prin intermediul unui vizor temporal similar, artista încadrează fragmente de realitate trecută, într-o ficţiune abstractă recentă.

Această alăturare explorează mai mulţi parametri: felul cum se percepe în prezent o imagine din trecut, modul diferit prin care se poate „surprinde” o situaţie prin fotografiere sau prin desen, tactilitatea suprafeţelor folosite, raportul dintre bi- şi tridimensional, etc.

Una dintre provocările seriei Viewfinder a fost realizarea unor desene variabile, unde periodic se poate interveni şi modifica lucrarea, prin simple rabateri, translări, deschideri, închideri, care schimbă ansamblul.

Liniile de forţă şi planurile arhitecturale ale asamblajului folosesc ca tehnică predominantă plierea, cu o dublă justificare: pliul modal, ca prelungire şi modulaţie a fotografiei în desen şi invers, şi pliul funcţional, ca articulare între bi- şi tridimensionalitate.

Este aproape ca atunci când cineva din trecut încearcă să imite o tehnologie din viitor, cu mijloacele şi materialele pe care le are la îndemână. Ceea ce iese e un simulacru al tehnologiei respective, un „cheap imitation” à la John Cage. Dar, în acelaşi timp, lucrarea devine un obiect intim, naiv şi pauper, profund subiectiv şi umanizat. Prin fanta îngustă a pliului dublu suntem invitaţi la voyeurism şi la un skeumorfism răsturnat.

ALERT studio este un proiect independent initiat de Raluca Ilaria Demetrescu, Alina Buga si Catalin Burcea cu scopul de a crea o platforma de cercetare  si promovare a productiei artistice contemporane. Asumandu-si functia de spatiu laborator, Alert Studio propune o intalnire intre artisti, idei, directii si discursuri din zone conceptuale si spatii culturale diferite. Sunt importante si apreciate gandirea critica si interogatia ca metode de cercetare a contextului cultural-artistic contemporan.

ALERT studio functioneaza ca o galerie de proiect, conectand trei directii de explorare artistica - PINK | RED | WHITE - intr-un singur spatiu. Insa aceste coordonate nu inseamna indexare, restrictie si etichetare. Ele se pot intersecta si nuanta, pot oricand dialoga si declansa dezbateri.

In the Viewfinder series that is presented in this exhibition, Aurora Király ”re-reads”, from the present perspective, photographs that she took almost two decades ago.

The viewfinder is a device on the camera that allows the user to select what the end image will show. Using a similar temporal viewfinder, the artist frames fragments from a past reality into an abstract recent fiction.

This joining explores multiple parameters: the way in which an image from the past is perceived in the present, different ways in which one can ”capture” a situation using photography or sketching, the tactility of the surfaces, the relation between bi and tridimensional, etc.

One of the challenges of the Viewfinder series was making variable sketches, where one can periodically interfere and change the work with simple folding, translation, openings, closings that can alter the assembly.  

The powerful lines and the architectural plans of the assembly make predominant use of folding with a double justification: the modal fold, as an extension of modulating photography into sketch and vice versa, and the functional fold as an articulation between bi and tridimensional.

It’s almost as if someone from the past is trying to imitate future technology using the means and materials within their reach. What comes out is a simulacrum of that technology, a „cheap imitation” à la John Cage. But at the same time, the work becomes an intimate, naïve and pauper object that is profoundly subjective and humanized. Through the narrow slit of the double fold, we are invited to voyeurism and an upside-down skeuomorphism.

ALERT studio is an independent project initiated by Raluca Demetrescu Alina Buga and Catalin Burcea in order to create a platform of research and promotion of contemporary artistic production. Taking on the function of alaboratory space, Studio Alert proposes a meeting between artists, ideas, directions and speeches from different areas of conceptual and cultural spaces. Critical thinking and interrogation are important and valued as research methods in the contemporary cultural and artistic field.

ALERT studio stands as a gallery project, connecting three areas of artistic exploration - PINK | RED | WHITE - into one space. But these coordinates do not mean indexing, labeling and restriction. They may intersect, combine in new shades, and may always communicate and trigger debates.
