Juneteenth Houston extends an invitation to all artists who call Texas home to submit a design for the official Juneteenth Flag. Juneteenth Houston envisions a design that powerfully symbolizes the profound sacrifice and enduring legacy of the 250,000 formerly enslaved individuals who were freed on June 19, 1865, as well as the millions who never knew freedom but upon whose shoulders Black Texans stand today.

Artist Residency | Cycle 1: April-July 2026
Stipend: $20,000  |  Deadline: March 15

The Midtown Artist in Residency Program supports one emerging or mid-career Houston artist through a four-month, in-person residency from April through July 2026. This residency provides dedicated workspace, financial support, professional visibility, and opportunities for meaningful community engagement within Midtown. The selected artist will receive:
  • 24/7 access to a private office-suite workspace
  • A $20,000 stipend
  • Professional documentation support
  • Marketing and promotional support from Midtown’s in-house team
  • Access to Midtown’s cultural partners
  • A featured presentation at the April Cultural Arts Mixer
  • A culminating public presentation at the conclusion of the residency
Artists are expected to complete three community engagement activities, participate in one Cultural Arts & Entertainment Committee meeting, attend monthly check-ins, and submit final documentation and a written reflection by July 31, 2026.

Call for designs that celebrate 100 Years of Jazz Icons
Award: $1500 | Deadline: March 10


The Midtown Houston Cultural Arts and Entertainment District is seeking local artists and designers to create an original and uniquely inspired design honoring the 100th birth anniversary of three American Music Icons: trumpeter Miles Davis; saxophonist John Coltrane and composer Morton Feldman. 

Midtown Houston and the world will hold events to honor these musical geniuses and celebrate International Jazz Day on April 30th.

The selected design will be used to create a large-scale temporary public art display using 3M vinyl face wrap on the iconic Midtown sign located in Bagby Park (415 Bagby Street).  One selected artist will receive a $1,500 honorarium for their winning design and participation in a professionally recorded interview about their work.

The Midtown Houston Cultural Arts and Entertainment District is seeking local artists and designers to create an original and uniquely inspired design that honors May for the month-long celebration of Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage, one of our most dynamic and inspiring cultures. 

Share with us your design that highlights the impact of the deep history and art that this community has on Houston.
