About Arts District Houston:
Arts District Houston, a program managed by local arts nonprofit Fresh Arts, is an urban, artist-centered community located along the Washington Avenue corridor in Houston. The neighborhood includes First and Sixth Wards and has the highest concentration of working artists in Texas. The district is home to over 450 studio spaces and highlights such as outdoor murals, MECA, Sawyer Yards, Fotofest, Fresh Arts, and the Buffalo Bayou Park Cistern.
Project Summary:
Arts District Houston is seeking artists/painters to submit work samples for the opportunity to create a unique design or artwork for an art car, a 1991 Chevy Suburban. The vehicle will be entered under the category "Painted Car" for the Art Car Parade on Saturday, April 13, 2024.
Through the Request for Qualifications process, 3 finalists will be invited to submit design-specific proposals for consideration. Designs should honor the 10 Year Anniversary of the Arts District by highlighting the artistic, cultural and historical importance of the Arts District.
One proposal will be selected and the selected artist will receive $8,000 to cover the work, participation, and materials for creating & implementing the design on the art car. The two runner-up(s) will each receive a $200 proposal fee for their time.
After the Art Car Parade, Arts District Houston will utilize the art car as a "mobile welcome center" as a way to promote and bring more awareness to the arts and cultural opportunities in the neighborhood (First Ward & Sixth Ward).
